whweldit Posted May 2 Posted May 2 Seeing the post about the ratchet in the tire made me wonder what other items that have been found in a tire. Picked up a knife blade once and a lead wheel weight. Weirdest I know of is the picture attached. In April 2011 a EF 4 tornado came across the county. Messed my place up but spared the house. Stayed on the ground for many miles. Destroyed much of the local town of cullman. Picture is of a 2 x 4 thrown thru a tire. Local tire store has it on display. That had to take some power! 4 1 3 Quote
Alan Dinan Posted May 2 Posted May 2 Mostly bolts, screws, nails or pieces of wire in tires here. I don’t remember dad ever picking up an antler in a tire before. I have found a few antlers, thankfully before they came in contact with a tire!! In high school I didn’t have $$ for new tires, so I bought takeoffs from the local mechanic. Had some slick tires over a few years and picked up a railroad rock crossing the tracks at one of our farms. Went right in!! I was about a mile and a half away from the shop, so limped it there for another takeoff. 1 Quote
yellowrosefarm Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Guy that had cows here before I got mine was bushogging by the fence line, and hit a T post with the cutter he had left laying there sometime before. It slung it through both sides of the tire like the 2x4 above. Probably the strangest thing I ever found in a tire was a spark plug. At work, not mine, thankfully. Quote
junkandcattle Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Wife was almost home and heard the pop and hiss of the tire.it had a hole in the sidewall. Tire shop found a 30-30 casing inside. It had to have bounced on the highway and hit the tire perfectly. Quote
TomH Posted May 3 Posted May 3 I was talking to our tire service guys awhile ago, they were telling a story of replacing rear tires and finding a 1 1/8” socket inside the tire between the rim and the tube. Assuming the person installing the the previous tires lost the socket when mounting the tire. Quote

brewcrew Posted May 3 Posted May 3 I had a trailer tire off the rim flat once, and I suggested they just use a cheetah to put it on and find the leak. They said for liability they had to remove it, and when they did we found a metal valve stem from someone else’s semi tire had gone through and was rattling around. It had rolled around long enough it was essentially polished! Lucky they had just changed a pair of steer tires for a guy so were able to sell me a used steer for way less than a new tire, which a lot of big brand shops won’t do. Quote

We had the tire worked on over winter (Goodyear) and had the tube added because it was showing Goodyear syndrome having cracking between lugs every other lug . Kid lost his plyers without realizing it. Tire went flat after going to the first field 5 miles away. Quote

The conditions were perfect, tires were squealing, black strips were laid, smoke and laughter were in the air, the open differential was consistently turning both wheels, hurting nothing but the tires. We played for a long while and then headed the few miles home. Pulling in the driveway we heard the leaking tire, there was a nickel sized rock in the middle of the tread. When I changed the tire I was surprised to see the rock was about the size of a rhombus shaped screwdriver handle. The portion inside was much larger diameter than the hole. This was summer 2006. The vehicle was an 86 S15 Jimmy 2wd 2.8/auto 2 door with 15 inch wheels. I worked at a GM dealership and the common 15 inch used tires were 215/60s from Malibus and 215/70s from mini vans. The tire that swallowed the rock was a General XP2000GT from a Montana van. They had a puncture seal goop on the inside. I think that goop played a role in trapping the rock but for sure, we had those tires hot!! 2 Quote

mike newman Posted May 8 Posted May 8 ......8 inch Crescent, somehow found its way into a semi trailer tyre (radial...) whilst hauling posts ,thru a city by-pass...It curved the Crescent, rather badly, and the threaded adjuster was missing.... The only redeeming thing was that it was an American product..(not a Chinese piece of dubious quality....)...thus the offending object still lives in the big work shop tool box...with an array of other Crescent/Diamond Caulk Horse Shoe Co/ KD and Ridged adjustable spanners.... Tire shop probably tried to tell you it couldn't be plugged, right? %$#@ greedy so-and-so's just tryin' to sell you a new set of tires.
