......finished work on this farm, after six weeks,,,shifted 12,000 tons of gravel off the flats...(as these folk have a slew of maize...they run a public weighbridge on the farm...we weighed many loads to get an average weight...)...with the 22 ton Volvo and  3 large trailers...

This Macrocarpa tree was up rooted by the big flood...and as a little bonus, I scored it for milling.... it is a good sized tree and the first log was cut to 17 feet long.....the cutting process was slowed considerably due to the bloke on the saw not seeing an old wire rope..which was embedded into the trunk...sort of under neath the log....rolled it over with  Volvo  and saw the problem....

The timber is destined for a new 20 x 12  ft room for my rifles......providing we can still hang on to them  in the foreseeable future....It is beautifull timber, for exposed roof structure and lining.

Got the combine out, blew it off. Stupid thing was just filthy, pretty sure it was spotless when I put it away? Put air in the back tires, just a little. Topped off the hytran, then moved the 756 out of the shop and the 1460 in its spot. Raining now, almost 2" so far! After a very wet July it had gotten pretty dry so this is nice, should take the leaves off the beans.

Put a new alternator on the 856, it appears to be charging it's batteries now. Local shop didn't even want to attempt to fix the old one.

They cooled the hot areas with a hose and left the tractor and sprayer outside. A few days passed till I got a chance to look at it. I went and got the tractor and brought it to our shop. Started talking covers off and thought might not be to bad a couple belts off. Then looked closer. Ball bearings were missing most of their balls. Set the sprayer on a stack of pallets to get it a working height. Found I couldn’t get the pto shaft of the tractor. Looked closer splines were twisted. Popped out the stub shaft. It took a punch to drive the release button in. Big drift to drive the pto shaft off the stub. Had other obligations so wasn’t able to get more apart Thursday. Going to go back at it tomorrow morning.

All the parts came in for the sprayer so I got started last night with reassembly. Got the bearings and shaft together and installed in the bearing housing. Today I got it mounted up and all the belts in the front installed. Jacto could have put alittle bit longer bolt slot in the frames had to walk each belt on one at a time grove by grove. 12 belts here in the front. Had to fix the pto release button. It got some burrs on it during disassembly from the twisted pto shaft. I was able to take the button out of the shaft. I chucked it in the vertical milling machine and put a square next to it. Thankfully it wasn’t bent. I turned the mill on and used a file to clean up the burrs. Took a few tries but I think the button is better than new. I also shortened the shaft a few inches. I think the shaft was alittle long which is what caused all this in the first place.

I got the sprayer done today. I’m apparently not smart enough to post a video here so I screenshot a pic from a video. I ran in a few minutes to run the belts in and to verify operation. I put all the covers and guards on afterwards.

...that looks very innovative, Mark.....but I have found that the track is better on the machine than off....

....if you get creative with the oxy/acetylene torch...you can remove the link next to the master link....at the narrow end...(''bush'' end..)...carefully and this saves the tedious business of hammering out that pin....just cut the side of the link away and then cut thru the pin.....both sides if necessary

Anyway...sounds simple enough  !!!...and it is...sprockets don't look too bad...hard to see properly, but as your chains get knackered...new sprocket rings are very helpful on keeping the chain in place....

I bought a 656 gasser to fulfill a want not a need. I am going to put an ICB cab and a NFE on it. It won't get much use . I have already been told they aren't a good cab, Yeah ! I know! LOL the tractor had a recent paint job so I got looking at the best cab! lots of welding, took doors and glass out, and spent most of the weekend working on it. Windows and door next weekend I spent a lot of time trying to track down proper mounting brackets for it.Mine are 856 brkts.  barely had enough paint but can touch up inside with a brush. I am going to finish the inside with that foam material with the covering with holes it it,if anyone knows what that is called and where to get it please let me know

If anyone has 656 brackets they want to sell or take measurements off I would appreciate it. I probably will have to modify the ones I have

  Done the way you are talking it would be possible to put a 234 corn picker on it.

This is my goal. I wish tractor wasn't repainted but  that's all I could find and it is in good mechanical condition 

This is NOT my 656 but what I am building

Fhers? Has what I think you are talking about. In precut kits for some cabs or can buy a bulk roll? There was another company making cab kits too, but I can't think of the name right now. I think they had the same type material.

I would like to find it locally in a roll . we used to use it in the garbage truck cabs but I don't know where they got it

Re roofing the house, should have gone metal when I built in 2001, was much cheaper then and 24 yrs younger, guys say you will never have to do it again, I said with my age I wouldn't have to either way, next phase is the Billy goat portion

New tires, tubes and flaps and new to truck WW2 combat wheels. Wheels sand blasted, primed and painted inside and out. One of the wheels had an original "military" marked tire that was about 3 times heavier side walls and had a strange hinged metal bead lock on the inside. Fun stuff.

I took the head off a couple trees that were getting to big beside the driveway.

I like to hook em up, cut a bit, and get clear before the fall.

Ive got pretty good at guessing how much I can break with the winch.

I also repopulated my wood deck.

After two years in storage this oak is looking prime.  I don’t split anything til it’s a few days from burning, it keeps it from getting too dry and I like the exercise in Winter.
