Sweet success on the batwing - my neighbor did a dandy job fixing and reinforcing it and also straightened the wing height adj bolt so now i got it mowing more even - i had another break on the carrier bracket but made new bushings out of pipe and put a 1/2 inch bolt in place of 3/8 and added a jam nut for vibration/movement

Winter is upon us, a little early, so the shop is full.  The 1066 Cole plows with broke a second injector line so it’s waiting on a new set of lines and one of those rubber torsion spring broke in the seat suspension.  Ruthless is apart again.  Broke the direct drive constant mesh gears.  This open station black stripe had a factory cab at some point in its life.  I am busy “churching” up the wiring, it has the wrong fenders, platform.  Turbo is done for.  The axles have been cut off and it needs a clutch so it will be in and out of the shop as I work on it this winter.  Of course I gave the snowblower and that tractor a once over this morning as we head into a snow storm.  Always fun in the shop.

Worked on the post-vise some more today. I think it's a usable piece of equipment now. Have a table that will work great with this. That will be a project for 2026.

I’m putting an injector in one of the Freightliners. It’s an N14. I put #6 in not long ago. Now I’m doing #5. It probably needs them all, but no more than it takes to change one, I’ll just put them in as needed. The Cummins warehouse that is real close had them in stock.

this was a number of years ago but I just came across the pictures.  My cousin gave me a rotted out flail chopper. I made a new blower housing and had an auger housing rolled. Made me think of the crazy snowblower thread. This would not be feasible to hire it rebuilt but it was very satisfying to bring it back with the cost of materials only

Power washed both tractors, 4 wheeler and lawnmower before the weather changed. Everything is put away in the garage.  Although the mower got alittle dirty raking leaves on Saturday.  Still need to hang the wreath...after the lights are replaced.

Change oil and filter, see how a jug of tgat restore stuff works out.

at one point in its life, I removed the single one barrel Zenith carb and installed twin SUs.

I also have an inovate exhaust O2 gauge.

IIRC, a reading of around 15 is getting clise to piston burning time.

Carbs freshly installed, not kitted, took a 300 mile round trip drive. 150 got me to Billings.

Fueled at the only full service Conoco station still in existence in the world I think, and, they advertised No E premium fuel.

Attendant came out and started filling the tank. Pretty soon He asked if I was from Miles City, yes, from license plate number, He asked how much fuel dies it take to fill this tank ? 12 or so, all I can squeeze in is 2.8 gallons. Okay, I was having to back off on the throttle on the long uphill grades, O2 gauge getting dangerousely high.

so it took 2.8 gallons if fuel in 150 miles and three quarts of oil.

I was stopping at every rest area and adding a quart to keep it on full.

Still not bad economically.

I had a green 72 many years ago. I took the twin su’s off and put a Weber down draft on it. Sure was fun to drive

Old man Lucas ignition failed one day.

Components for that distributor were obsolete.

Decided I’d put together a system I can walk into the parts store most any town and get whatever might be needed.

Looking down on the rotor it turns CCW so whatever I did had to built from such a base in order to get the advance/retard correct.

A friend had this old Delco HEI from a cadillac V8.

Dismantled that unit then drove the bushing out of the lower end.

Machined the shaft housijg to fit the MG block then sawed it off short like.

Drove the bushing back into the lower end of the housing.

Measured several times then sawed off the Delco shaft to the proper length.

Removed the star wheel from the shaft and the pickup coil from the housing and installed components from a four cylinder chevy monza into the housing and onto the shaft.

Figured a good position for the no.1 plug terminal, eyeballed it all over real good then shoved the shaft to oil pump drive lug onto the shaft, drilled for roll pin then put it all together.

Not really knowing the history of how the engine used to run, then with this johnny lightening bolt spark, it woke those old dead spark plugs right up.

cloud of smoke followed that thing around for about two weeks before it got all the old raw fuel and oil burned from the exhaust system.

What was the difference between a 4230 and a 4430 other than HP ??   Won't yours be like a 44.530 with the 466? :)

Just  did one of  those on '68 Ford F500... has the old Y-block,  and to get the trans out, your face has to be in close proximity  with the  starter and the inspection  cover... I can't  think of  a more gross job  than  having  that  material  dropping on your  face.

Looking  forward to doing  a '73 Louisville with  the  same ailment.... same  engine, Clark trans... pulled the starter  out and half the seat  is in the bell housing.

4430 has a turbo and a 4230 doesn’t. I’m sure there are internal differences in the drive train because of the added 25 hp as well. Our 4430 has 8 bolt front hubs and 38” rear tires and our 4230 has 6 bolt front hubs and 34” rear tires but not all were necessarily equipped that way.

Not exactly since the 986 has a D436 and the 1086 has the DT414. The 1486 has the DT436. The Deere 4230-4430-4630 all used the 404 engine. The 4230 was NA, the 4430 was turbocharged, and the 4630 was turbocharged and also used an intercooler. The 4630 is quite a bit more tractor than a 4430. The 4030 had the 329 engine and the 6030 used the 531 engine.

Put in a new shear bolt on the IH 80 snowblower PTO shaft. Ready to put it on the Hydro 70. The 1066 is outside right now, have to make some room to put both in the shop. I started the 1066 a couple of days ago when the temp was in the 20s. It started right up but died after a few seconds of running. So I plugged in the tank heater. I'm sure the fuel is winter blend. After a while I noticed the shop furnace hadn't kicked in. The ground fault had tripped where I had the 1066 plugged in. So I reset it and the furnace worked again. They are on the same circuit. So I plugged the tank heater into a different circuit with a different cord. Same thing. After about 10 minutes the ground fault tripped on that circuit. So I'm figuring there's a problem with the tank heater. Never tripped the breaker. Seems like I have a lot of problems with ground faults. I have them because I have outside receptacles that could get wet but unlikely. Still not sure why the 1066 stalled after it started though. Added diesel 911 just in case it gelled up, but it shouldn't have. It's supposed to be in the 30s next week so I suppose I'll check it out then. About 3 above now so it can wait for another day!

466 turbo engine was installed in tractors, combines, forage harvesters and forestry equipment etc. This engine was pulled from a early 80's 7720 combine. This one was rated at 170 hp.

Engine off, stripped and on pallet ready to box up and ship. I ordered new seals for the engine baffling and am in the process of doing some sheet metal repairs. I'm going to have the engine mount powder coated and I'm gearing up to powder coat the baffles.

Well this may be edification and amusement for you .

The bearing has failed on this antique sentry sabre saw.
Well ,I can’t get the bearing off the up down arbor without removing the the Torrington b23 needle bearing. The bearing is in a blind hole. The bearing locks slide block to the up down shaft. What a revolting design this is .

Got the wall tied into my existing shop for a lean to. It’s going to end up pretty low slope, but I needed to have 10’ clearance inside.  There will be plenty of steel in it to carry the snow load.  Realized that putting steel up by myself doesn’t quite seem as fun as it was 25 years ago.
