A little fall cleanup and put away.

Got all of the implements cleaned up and parked on line. Tractors are all in the sheds. Pushed the M into the shop so I can figure out why it’s out of time. Believe a key gave up on the camshaft but not sure, just have to start digging.

Burned the accumulation at the fire pit.

Made a load to go to the consignment sale in Idaho.

Was tired of moving this Case SC around.  I have no need for it. Leftover stuff of Dad’s that I don’t want or need.

Put some old engines and a push planter in there also. Have lots more engines to send down the line but takes time to do.  Seems to take most of a day to load/strap down and then took most of today to deliver and come home.  But it’s off the farm and out of the way.

When I removed the flywheel and saw the seal completely out, my first thought was "good old Tecumseh", but a closer look at the seal shows that some knucklehead had been there before.  I rummaged around and found an old bent PTO shaft that was the right diameter for a seal driver, cut off the yoke and drove the new seal in. Then, spent about 30 minutes cleaning all the oil off the engine and put it back together.  I'll run it here for a good while before I take it back down to the other place to finish leaves there.

Took off work today, high of 74*, and sunny. Back on the roof, getting it ready for the metal tomorrow. Have a couple guys coming in the morning to help get it finished. Nothing goes very fast when it’s just the wife and I. We had to notch a couple rafters to keep the perlins running flat, and remove some of the 1X’s that were in the way.
Spent last Saturday cutting out the rotten wood and getting it replaced. Was too windy Sunday to get up there.

Time to catch up on some outstanding oil leaks 

first the tilt cylinder on my 1056xl quicke loader stripped, cleaned ,resealed and refitted a strange designed cylinder if I ever seen one I suppose it gives equal flow and pressure in both directions and has stood the test of time so mustn’t complain to much

next up my workshop forklift multi stage lift cylinder a little more complex

I hear yah, been 2 months on mine working alone, this is probably the last weekend before winter really sets in, picked up what I thought was last of tin Thursday but they missed 2 sheets so I'm gonna be short but today and tomorrow is the last push to get it done, worst part is waiting for the frost to come off so you really don't get anything done before noon or 1 and it's dark by 5

nothing, I am going to put 3 sets of weights on it.I put Michelin tubes in it and don't plan on doing it again.

Harvest has sucked. Health and breakdowns kicking my tail. I haven't figured out why my fan blew apart doing some beans last weekend. Handed over my kids inheritance to Aaron today but should get it together tomorrow and finish beans this weekend hopefully. Only a few acres beans left and about 45 corn. Be glad to get done.

Neighbor bought this little 3cyl ford loader tractor a month ago with a stuck clutch. He drove it over and we took it apart tonight.  How much mouse pee and how long did This take?  Only access would have been through a 1/2” x 1” hole where a timing cover was missing.

I have been busy the past few weeks, here are some highlights 

 

This truck was in for an inspection and oil change.  It has a SBC that looks original with 40 years of oil moist grime, but doesn’t leak enough to mark it’s territory, runs really well and doesn’t smoke.  Has an automatic, think it was a 350, that shifts nice and doesn’t leak.  Full time 4x4, don’t see that as often as part time.  It drives well, rolls down the road at 55-60 smoothly 

It’s been pieced together from several trucks, whoever did it did a good job, it’s not show perfect but it works (doors open and close, working fuel gauge/choke/wipers/heater/etc) and isn’t a hacked up turd.  I think the cab is from a 2wd and doesn’t have higher transmission hump to make room for the transfer case, hence the body lift.  There is about 2 inches between the case and floor now, with a 3 (?) inch body lift spacer plus a hockey puck.  The owner and I agree that the body lift should go, so I’ll need to do some tunnel modifications 

I finally got this one running, it’s been a whenyouhavetime project for too long.  It originally had a 6.2 diesel that was long gone before it came here.  The SM465 was still hanging in there, now has a 94 5.7 converted to carb.  I have converted several TBI SBCs to carb, usually with junkyard parts (intake, carb, HEI distributor) but my stash of parts isn’t as big and finding other parts takes time so I tried an Amazon intake, Quadrajet and distributor, so far so good.  Last week was the first time this truck moved under its own power in years.  I have it mostly together, brand new dual exhaust to boot!!  The alternator needs to be wired in as well as the electric choke, then loom and tape up the harness, set the timing and put an air cleaner on it
