First car you drove to school

67 mustang that someone stuck and absolutely worn out 289 in. Junkyard special. 

Dad left for a few days on some coop bus trip. Bad decision. Should not have left 16 year old me un supervised.😀

Mustang went to the tree in the yard. 3 cracked pistons and needed bored. 

10.5 to one pistons, big cam and all of my bale handling money was gone.

But it was FUN

Actually it was a Kingswood wagon. Think it was this color. 

 

That was a strong running engine. It had the 350 Turbo Fire 300 horsepower sticker on the air cleaner and the Built by Chevrolet Tonawanda- #1 Chevrolet team sticker on the valve cover. It came out of a 69 Impala 4 door that was abandoned in our small town. Dad was the city maintenance guy so it was his job to get rid of it.

Mine's doing about 330 on a chassis dyno so 400 or so at the flywheel.  Need better heads than those camel humps.

I had work study at the local body shop. Junior year I completely went through a 1951 Ford 1/2 ton. Chopped a 352 motor and auto trans out of a wrecked car from a neighbor. It was strawberry candy red. Drove that truck for 12 years until I needed to get more space for the family.

‘78 F150, 4” lift. 400, 4wd,4spd , on 35’s.   Took me a year to put it together but it was show quality with all original metal and only 48k on it, in ‘93. 
My father bought it for me cheap with a load of snow and roof shingles heaped up in the box.  Clutch out, ring gear chipped, spring broken, front end whipped (plow on it for half its life),  no dash lights, shorted out radio, and leaking steering box.  He’d buy me one part a week or so, and taught me how to install it.  I had the axles out, and back in, before I was 16.  
Did a brake job, e brake spring snapped, or I had it hooked wrong, hung up, I stomped it 7 miles home. Burned up the new drums.  Local shop turned them for me.  Two days old.  That shop guy still teases me about it sometimes

1975 Chevy Monte Carlo that belonged to my Mom and a 1972 Citroen DS21 Pallas that belonged to my Brother.  When I graduated from High School I bought my own 72  DS21 to drive to college. Mine was a 4 speed manual, my Brother's a Citromatic.  There was still a Citroen dealership in the suburbs of Washington D.C. at that time.  For the years she had the Monte Carlo it was nothing but trouble, always something wrong with it. But, I did flip the lid on the air cleaner when I drove it to the Senior prom, which was fun.

1964 Chevy II Nova. My parents traded their '65 Bel Air station wagon with my older sister and brother-in-law for it. My father did a little engine work on it and I had it from the time I got my driver's license in '72 until after I finished my first two years of college. The paint was flaking off the hood and roof and it had some rusted out areas but none of that mattered to me. Once I had that, I never again drove the old "53 Chevy "field bomb" that I'd been driving around the back of the farm since I was 12.

First car was a Jeep Wagoneer with the 230 OHC. Then moved onto a 72 Ford Maverick 4 door with a 302. That car got rear ended while driving 55 mph. Traded it for a 74 Pinto before it came out of the body shop. Still have the Pinto and hope to have it back on the road withen the year.

I'll add that I never rode the bus. Walked to the Elementary school, rode bicycle to Intermediate (7th and 8th), rode with older friends in their cars to high school until I got my license Junior year.  Fairfax county VA had 22 high schools then so no one had to travel very far.  My graduating class (1978) was 453, and we were not one of the larger schools.

I rode the stinking school bus from kindergarten through my senior year. An hour each way. Even though I owned my own vehicles. Never did understand why my younger siblings were able to drive to school but I was not. I asked my parents right before dad passed and they couldn’t answer me. 

So you're telling us two things?

1 your got your first ticket at 14.

2 your first ticket was for overweight?

56’ Dodge Power Wagon, but my daily was a 97’ Sierra 1500, 4.3 5 spd, regular cab, long bed, SL trim, gramp ordered it stripped, but dad insisted on air/cruise/tilt, and apparently the easiest way was to order an SL and put crank windows on it. Was a good looking truck and I drove it from 16k-240K.

1969 Ford Torino Fast back .It was a 428 Cobra Jet Factory car but the guy I bought it from took the 428 out and put in a 390.Still had the badges and everything. 4 SPD white know Hurst shifter.

I didn’t get the overweight ticket but did get a lecture and was never able to drive the truck to school again.

Wow .Mine had the hood with a scoop on it .Like a said all Cobra badges on it but lacking the 428.I paid $600 for it my first car at 15.I bought it before I could even get my driver's license.Used to take it out to the busy hard top road in front of the farm , do burnouts and bang gears going down the road. Its a wonder the local cops didn't get me.

56 Chevy, 4 door post. Caught it from my friends for driving a grandpa car. Smoked the powerglide and put in a 3 on the floor. Sold it to a guy that wanted the 265 and bought a 73 Datsun pu in 74.

My first was a 72 Chevelle 4 door ugly (like lime) green, 307 turbo 350 , one wheel peel.

Second was a 1979 Blazer. Turbo 400 and 400 small block, 31" tires 

Third was a 1981: Vette my cousin bought new .... It was the shah model.... Chevette. Was the most reliable vehicle I ever had

1969 Chevy Impala 4 door in Sherman tank green!  With a 396 and a TH 400!  My mother used to tow the horse trailer with it after adding a hitch, airbags and electric trailer brakes.  Very sporty!  LOL

It was a hand me down.  My sister drove it to schools too before me.  

 

It threw a timing chain on me out on the interstate on the way home from college about an hour and a half from home.  That was fun in the days before cell phones!  At least back then no one was afraid to pick up a kid walking down the side of the interstate.

Mine was a ‘78 Jeep CJ5 Golden Eagle with 304 V8 and a 3spd. manual. I bought it at 14 for $1,200. I really wish I had it today.
