DST passes house vote.

Permanent daylight savings time has officially passed the vote in the house.  If the senate agrees,  then we would stay on our current time permanently.   It does sound like individual states can opt out.  I am in favor.   I leave for work in the dark all winter long anyway.  This way, I would have light when I first arrive home.  What do you guys think?  Do you even care?

I dont care either way I guess... Only thing is that in the winter If this goes through not only will it be cold, but it will also be dark dark with no hint of light until probably close to 830 or well after kids are already learning.  closer to 9am in some places...   that to me sounds awful for getting the kids going in the morning.   Maybe we need to go to school in the summer and have winter break?

I dont know,  Im currently most concerned with electrical, gas, diesel, fertilizer, and commodity markets,  also high insurance costs (health, home, auto, life,  you name it).  what time i do my chores or whatever isnt really registering to me as a critical need that is gonna take any real worry off my plate or help me pay the mortgage.  Im ok with others figuring it out and letting me know what is decided and ill fall in line.

I don't care how they do it but I have been over the changing of clocks, twice a year, for around 50 years. I find it so odd that it is still a thing. Maybe just split the difference and move the time 30 minutes.  That would sure ruffle some feathers! 😂

Clock change screws me up every time.  I hope they split the difference and forget about it.

I have been hearing that term “Permanent daylight savings time”.  It seems like an oxymoron to me.  What’s there to lose!

I don't know that it makes any difference to me. I wasn't alive in the '70s when this was already tried but reading just a little bit about it makes it seem like it quickly lost its popularity.

I'm retired as of last week(!) so I don't think I will care much. But, with the exception of early summer I always left for work in the dark so that wouldn't change. Virtually every construction type job starts at 6:30 to 7:00 AM so it will be pitch black for most of fall through winter into early spring. So would a lot of these company's have to start an hour later? That sort of defeats the purpose. I could almost vote for standard time year round as I was always happy to get an early start. Back in 1974 President Nixon tried permanent daylight time and it did not go over well especially with parents sending their kids to school in the dark. We'll see what happens, might depend on a states proximity to the next or preceding time zone.

The changing clocks twice a year is nonsensical. Decide on one, then stick to it. I personally would prefer standard time, all year. To me, what’s more important, would be reverting back to the common sense calendar; 13 Months, 28 days per month. 
Every month would start on Sunday the 1st, end on a Saturday the 28th.

I have wanted DST year round for decades. I always hated getting off work after dark. Plus having sunlight until nearly 10 pm in the summer is awesome. And it's getting light by 5am in the summer already so if it were standard time it would be getting light at 4am. Hopefully I'm still sleeping at 4am! Since I'm not at work anymore I guess it really doesn't matter to me now.

For my own selfish wants, yes more light after work would be ok in the winter. But I do think it would put more kids at risk sending them to school in the dark and talk about hard to get them going when it's still dark out!

Switching the time does mess me up a bit more than It used to. But I never really worried about it much. As already said I think there are much more serious things to worry about than that.

I am retired.  Sun up/sun down whenever.  But please just pick a time and leave it alone.  If it is too dark to get kids to school adjust the school day 30 minutes. Even if just for dec - Jan.

Can't understand what the fuss is about. Leave the clock alone. Adjust other activities to the clock. We've had summer and winter hours as long as I can remember inspite of messing with the clock.

My personal opinion is that day light savings time year around is dumb as it will be dark until 8:40 in the morning in the winter. Although I’m going to lose any sleep over it.

What sucks is there will be states that opt out so in certain areas you will still deal with time differences.

Here, in the winter kids are already waiting for the bus in the dark, and I drive to work and return in the dark most days. It would really help to have the extra daylight in the evening.

I don’t know what time it is most of the day anyways. Just day time or night. I’m at the edge of the next time zone so it is light until almost 11 pm in the middle of summer. But the length of day is just what it is.  Doesn’t matter to me, I’m not on a specific schedule to go to work or come home.  I could see how that messes up someone punching a clock or the kids in school.

I’ll be glad when they finalize the change. I hate moving clocks back and forth twice a year.

I only have two clocks to change all the rest are automatically changed.
