Neither, my Dad (from the Myrtle Beach SC North area and so am I) always called a bottled drink, Belly Wash, you could pick the brand or flavor. My inlaws and Spouse were from the Boston area. Soda was correct for them.

Most folks around here seem to gravitate to the term "soda".

As of late, I seem to hear the term "soft drink".

It’s called what it is here- Coke, Pepsi, Sprite, etc. Crackers are called Nabs.

Somewhere down the line, I was introduced to the term soda water in reference to the above. Not sure, but I think my cousins in Cuero, TX were to blame. And beer was either Pearl or Lonestar.

Kinda confirms what I hav always thought.  Soda is more of west southern term.  I had a few cousins who were born and raised early in their lives in AZ and when they moved back home for a short time they always said soda.

In northwest ND, around Williston, if you want a sloppy joe you'd order a slushburger. And of course a pop to drink.

Grew up in Minnesota and then Montana. Always called it a pop. Paynesville, Minnesota had a Pop Shoppe if I remember right. Mom would get a wooden divided tote and pick out different flavors in glass bottles. Bring the empties back. Many different flavors that were not in the gas stations.

I moved to Missouri and my former wife was from St Louis.  Her family all called it soda.

we always say snack crackers, so you get whatever mom has in the cabinet = pnut butr crackers, cheese n crackers,

What is on the isle board in the grocery store/supermarket?   It also says "soda" on that board here,  but wonder if there are differences in local lingo.

it says soda in our local small town thriftway - hyvee iowa national chain says soft drinks

sloppy joe here also  - also sh i t on a shingle but i think that was some kind of beef/gravy on toast
