I find it interesting that this is an IH forum and there’s always 2-3 people try turning it into a jaun deere forum. Talking about the 50th anniversary of the unveiling of a new series tractor and somehow it turns into a jd thread. Maybe someone should start a jaun Deere forum for the guys who obviously wear green underwear

Just told the family group chat that I've signed up to start a women's weight lifting class on a Wednesday.. I wish I could post the screenshot, mother is having kittens and asked if I was going to become a bodybuilder and do I infact like women now? As if my sexuality has anything to do with anything 🤣😭 I informed her, no, but if I have to move metal around to do my job, the arm and core strength to actually pick it up without breaking myself would be helpful! all, i am on the tail end of a shingles episode - I believe i have had it flare up many times ovrer the years not realizing what it was because it presented as various issues internally my point to this is if they keep telling you there is nothing wrong they are likely wrong i wont go into the saga of my 30 year battle with that diagnosis over/over, pills/meds that never helped and all of my mysterious issues came/went w/out reason my latest presentation was internal pain near the drivers side of my spine - it came/went like acid reflux might - tired, weak, loss of appetite. the pain was more intense at times - aggravate by sitting in a chair or laying down because it irritated the nerves in my back got to the point i couldnt stand it, sleep was here/there and because of past blood clots/lung issues/heart arythmia i decided to go to the ER, same thing.........nothing wrong with you, went to DR, did all sorts of blood tests, low vitamin D is the only thing they found. So.........I kept feeding AI info, it settled on shingles even tho i have no presentation of sores/blisters. I was not familiar with internal shingles. Yes its a thing, has a diff name vs externally presenting shingles. The internal attacks the body and you have a virus running amuck in the nervous system. It travels around your torso, basically from the spine around to your sides at the rib cage level. For me it was a burning sensation with tingling/crawling like a bunch of worms moving around inside. This is what i fed into AI ( chat gpt ) and it said shingles. I asked my DR if they could give me something. In two days of meds I felt a change, after the 7 day of pills, i felt better but not great, lethargic, achey like flu, but better overall. I held out a couple days and gave in as it was coming back worse. I got another 7 days of antivirals and this time it seems to be staying away. I still feel tired and sluggish but doing small tasks and trying not to overdo it and relapse. Luckily my day job is on a computer so I have managed that ok. I did not get the shingles vax - i am contemplating it but still on the fence due to some minor risks and lack of trust of our blessed medical system who failed us along with the gov't and the great Fow Chee experiment. IF you have ever had chickenpox, the Shingles virus lays dormant in your system just like staph or strep. When we get weak it presents itself. the antivirals are hard on the kidneys so be aware of that. Hope this helps someone - Back in 1994 when i started having issues one Dr ( a former Army field dr. ) told me I dont know how to fix you BUT I know you have some smoldering virus in your system that keeps flaring up. Now I know what it was. It only took 32 yrs and self diagnosis.

Why? Supply and demand is working. If anything you should be mad at California for closing 3 refineries in the last few years. Severe lack of refining capacity is driving diesel prices.

Just me, but all this thinking and trying to repair the finger, I would have the tractor split already and I hate working on a creeper and shi#& falling on my face😉

We still have the 1086 Grandpa bought new. Delivered March 14, 1979 but serial # denotes it as a 78' model tractor. It came from the factory with 8-track and 20.8's. It had the soft rear end gears that were replaced early on at the dealership. Grandpa said there were no factory duals available so it has worn white DMI duals its entire life and a full set of flame cut weights. It pulled a 12 row Kinzie planter for several years for my uncle before the planter was upgraded. Currently around 4300 hrs wearing the original BFG tires it came with new (to the best of my knowledge)

I know it's popular to trash the oil companies, but I'm going to defend them. Every business shoots for a 10% ROI (return on investment). ExxonMobile had a ROI in 2025 of 10.6%. The recent quarter ending June 30 their ROI was 10.7%. That means if they had a profit of 12.5 billion, they spent about 125 billion to make that profit. Don't let the big numbers influence the argument. That 125 billion they spent went to materials, labor, regulation, marketing, and all the other costs associated with the business. That 125 billion went into the economy. I have stated before contrary to popular belief, the oil companies do not set the price of crude oil. The commodities traders do. OPEC has a large influence on the price of crude oil, being that they increase or decrease production to keep the price where they want it. Where do they want the price? Not so high that refiners won't buy, but not so low that it is not economical to drill for it. The oil business is and always has been a boom and bust business. Some years they lose money (gasp!) and other years they make money. Handling millions of barrels of highly flammable liquids and gasses each and every day is a dangerous business. Over all I think they do a pretty good job, after all they don't make money by having explosions and fires. Don't like the oil companies? Boycott them. Lets see how long you last without the products that fuel the entire world.

I don’t know how any body thinks it’s a jd thread. Someone just asked how they sold against that model tractor. As for the 86 series it sold against two jd models the 30 and 40 series. If you take a truthful look at the tractor numbers for 3 models of IH and three models of JDthat overlapped each other they are almost the same sales numbers IH sold 47,420 1086 and 54947 1066. Compared to jd at 79,000 4430 and whatever 4440 sold. So about 100,000 125 hp IH sold to maybe 130000 jd models. But to analyze them you should take the 4 basic Deere models compared to the models that intersected in IH Line like 186, 1086 and split halve the 1486 to people who went up in power from a 1086 and combine that other 50 %. With a 1586 to compare against a 4630,40. There are 50 series IH in the pic also but they basically should be matched to the early Deere 50 series. If you take the 1086, 1066 and half the 1486 numbers IH almost sold 1 for 1 with jd in that popular range.

I sometimes wear red underwear but in the warm months I go commando. It's cooler. In the winter, I strongly prefer red Long Johns.

Thanks DT, I may try that! Lord knows I got plenty of old nuts and bolts laying around; and a fella could strap it to a tractor wheel and go work a little ground or something too. I'd say after a couple hours of that, it ought to be as clean as it could ever be! BBs work well I like to strap them to my cement mixer

You reminded me to go have a look at buddy’s scrap yard… looks like I bought three more fordson’s… sigh… one F and two English N models. There’s 4 decent Fordson spoked rims for rubber tires, set of front and rears. One N might be restorable without too much work and the other two are really rough, parts tractors…

So far so bad for me. While back I was trying to understand why a Yamaha 4 wheeler said the front differential lock was on when it actually wasn’t. Gurgle’s AI garbage said that year model had self diagnostics in the display. It didn’t. My wife says ChatGPT helps her out with medical stuff but for what I do the AI I have encountered is worse than worthless.

Get the vax! It's painless and for sure you don't want shingles as it can be very debilitating. I had minor chicken pox as a kid and my shingles episode was considered minor as well. If that's minor I don't want major. Our dispatcher got it on her face and eye. She was in pain for months. JFK junior is full of crap and doing a great disservice to kids.

I drove it almost 20 miles, had a little fuel pump/filter/pressure issue I need to look at at but I put it on the trailer just last half ways through the run because the wheels were starting to crack at the spokes. They’re pretty thin and rusty. I need to change the wheels before driving it any more.

#511 morel 450 has been for sale nearby me . Maybe it sold by now. The guy wanted 9500 way to much IMO for a not first or last machine.

I hardly ever use a puller to get the balancer off. If you have a friend available and 2 angled end pry bars, put the end between the top 5/8 timing cover bolt on each side and the outer ring of the balancer pulley. Pressure will move it forward, just jeep wiggling the pry bars. If nobody's available just keep alternating side to side and it eventually works forward.

I'd drain the gear oil into a narrow body container then after given a chance to settle run a magnet around the bottom to see if any metal shows up. Also, I would jack the combine up where that final drive and wheel are to see if there is any movement indicating excessive bearing wear. Seals usually don't start leaking significantly without a cause but you might be lucky and be the rare exception. If you find metal on the magnet or the wheel has the least bit of side to side movement be prepared to go in to inspect bearings and gears.

I recall our IH dealer being very happy when the 86 series tractors came out. They really liked the cab and from a shop standpoint there were fewer hours needed to do a split for clutch or TA.

Overall sales and regional sales were completely different. Even when green outsold red over all (noted above) there were pockets of Massey, Oliver, MM, and AC domination. It depended on dealership location and service to an extent. I would say Orange and Red outsold Green here in the 70's. We had (still have) all three dealers in town. No AC dealer but they still service and sell lots of parts for the pumpkins. They are NH/Massey now. JD has a good showing locally now and the Red dealer still does a fair amount of business. Lots of NH tractors out there in this area now but the Massey's have never really taken hold.

I got an 86 Series brochure from The Paper Farmer this year at RPRU and it’s really neat. Printed in October 1976. Now I have the 66 series brochure printed in May 1971, this 86 series, and the 50 series from 1983.

A friend bought a super nice 986 a few years ago out of Illinois? Super low hours. All original including interior. I think he paid $30k? It's kept in a shed when not in use but he works it right beside his late model CASIIH and Kubota of similar size. He thought it was a bargain. He loves it. Not so much plastic and electronics.

Agree!! If you are also doing the water pump, maybe pull the radiator, then you are wide open to do the pulley, seal, and water pump

I was watching a documentary on the attacks and aftermath. One gentleman who was flying with the president on Air Force One remembered looking out the window and seeing the F16 escort. So close, that he could see the pilots face. That young pilot had orders to protect the presidential plane by positioning himself between any oncoming missile. Very humbling moment.

Have to be a bit careful referring to “HyTran”. HyTran HyTran Plus HyTran Ultra HyTran Ultraction All a little different. Now HyTran Premium. It was the Ultraction version that didn’t play nice in legacy CIH tractors that had been used with the previous versions.

I know you are accurate in the numbers -- was not implying that at all just getting at the numbers are not on the standard taper chart -- need to measure a pin or the reamer to figure if that is a standard taper or something from an engineers nightmare -- we had the OTC reamer at the shop , but I am not there now so no way to measure

The guy I'm thinking of fixes original temp gauges, not sure he does anything else? Someone near him is on here I know. Or used to be.

A few years back, the company hired a new foreman, so they sent me out to help and check him out. It was a commercial building site that had gone broke, and the new owners redesigned the parking lot with some curb changes. The newbie is walking that way, and I yell stay back, yellowjackets! He says bees? No, not bees, yellowjackets, stay away! He goes to his truck and comes back with two cans of marking paint and struts right into the cloud spraying the paint around... and they tore him up, got hit about 20 times and ran away waving his arms. After he ran away, I asked him WTH were you thinking? He says I've heard if you paint bee's wings they can't fly... He still had a couple in his shirt that nailed him as I was driving him to the clinic as he swelled up

I got the one shot years ago and then the Shringrex yeas later when it became available.I had very minor and expected side effect with both shots, just tired and sore arm for a day. I'll take those over getting Shingles again any day. Sadly some folks, like you, get some not so easy side effects. Bummer you can't prevent but just hope you don't get them.
