Lawyers definitely cost more than  tickets.

However they can save you from loosing your license and possibly higher insurance rates.

My once in a life time State Patrol story.

Took a group of SCUBA students on a trip that required us to fly out of Kansas City . Its about three hours from home. We had a very early morning flight so we all got a hotel in KC for the night before.
One of my students and i left home very late after a long day and headed for KC in her Lexus.
Some where around Mound City on I-29 she fell asleep. I was driving and soon after i also fell asleep.  When i woke up the speedometer was pegged and i was about to rear end a semi truck. Her speedometer went to 140 so we were doing at least that and more. I slammed on the breaks and swerved around the semi truck missing it by inches and at the same time this was happening a Trooper was right behind me with his lights on.  I pulled over , woke up my passenger and told her i would most likely be going to jail. I was concerned about all these people relying on me to guide this trip so i was pretty shook up about several things at once.
He came up to the window and said “ Do you know how fast you were going ?”  I said “ No i have no idea , my eyes were closed and when i woke up it was all i could do to not rear end that truck . He said “ I know , that was some fancy driving i thought for sure you were going to rear end that truck. After a long visit on the sode of the road  He didnt even ask to see my license , told me to take the next exit and get some coffee.
True story, no ticket.

Probably doesn’t work well for a ‘65 F-100 with a decent 289 in it. Probably the second biggest piece of junk I have ever owned, but the cops loved it.

AND THEY weren’t prejudice!! From town cops, county sheriff’s and state troopers, they all loved that old cream colored pickemup truck!! Got my first ticket on my 19th birthday and was walking LONG before my 20th!!
Sure glad I got all that out of my system!!

Check the State and Local laws, is some States, LEO’s are not legally allowed to sit(or hide) on private property any farther back than the easement to conduct traffic control.

I didn’t think anything could save one from higher insurance rates. 😁

Keeping your mouth shut sometimes will. Some states (ny is one) charge insurance companies to look up you record. They won’t look up your record unless you give them a reason (buy new vehicle or turn in a claim, etc.). I know people that have had the insurance companies call and ask how many speeding tickets they have, “well how many do you think I have? Yup that’s right”

I think I have gotten a ticket for 20 over but it was a long time ago. Several decades.

I have had some fast cars though.

My 73 Challenger has a 340. It would cruise at 140 MPH but I only got that fast once.

My 90 Daytons Shelby has a turbocharged, intercooled 4 cylinder that would do 150 MPH. When I worked at the paper mill in SE Arkansas,  there were straight, flat, isolated highways you could easy drive very fast on. I drove fast many times down there. My friends Camero of similar vintage was speed limited to 135 MPH. I left him behind!

Near 30 yrs ago I got real lucky.

Believe it or not, in MN there's a speed limit for snowmobiles on a frozen lake.... 50 mph. The ticket is exactly the same in fines and shows on your driving record just like a car.

Well, there was a perfectly straight & smooth road plowed across the lake I was on that was just a little too tempting... When I seen the officer on a sled turn on his lights my needle was hanging about 110. There was no place to run so I stopped... It was my 23rd birthday and the officer was actually a fan of snowmobiles, he was so impressed the old Indy 400 showed 104 on his radar... he wrote me a ticket marked down to 15 over.

But the real lucky part, I was about 18 beers into my birthday party on the ice before Speedy Gonzalez came out... DUI laws on a sled are also just like in a car... The official never asked me to take off my helmet, didn't make me do much talking, never came within arms reach. I managed a couple "yes sirs" and "sorry about thats" without slurring the words. I took my ticket with a slow it down and hope the rest of your birthday is great. I idled back to the party, switched to the wheeler that wouldn't hit 50 unless on a trailer.

Funny story, not me. A good friend of mine grew Chuckers and Pheasants and had a delivery route from one end of California to the other, this guy's cruise control was a brick on the throttle pedal. One early morning like 2 am he was on interstate 5 coming home, back then 5 was pretty empty except for trucks and he was flying low, a CHP pulled him over and came to the window and was angry and asked if he knew how fast he was going, my friend answered ''yes 120'' and the officer said why in the ********** are you driving 120 MPH and he answered '' because it won't go any faster'' the cop laughed and gave him a ticket for something like 85.  True story

This one was told by a driver that I know. He was jaw jacking with another driver on the CB and got to talking about tickets. The other driver told him that he was running across, I think, Kansas and met a state cop doing 127. He didn’t let off the hammer until the cop caught up with him and then he pulled over. The cop asked him why he didn’t pull over when he hit his lights and turned around. The driver responded with “I knew you had me, I just wanted to see how many miles it took you to catch up with me!” He made it just over 20 miles before the cop caught up. The cop laughed and told him to slow it down. No ticket.

The first body shop I worked at there was a county cop that would stop in and BS often and he also was a classmate of my mother. I had a 750 Honda that was rejeted and had drag pipes. One day on the way home from work I passed 5 cars in a row I was going about 120 MPH out of the corner of my eye I saw Bobs squad car on a side road so I pulled over and waited for him. He pulled up and asked what the **** I was doing I told him I was blowing the carbon out; he said that it never had carbon in it. He said because I pulled over and waited he only wrote me up for going 10 over. only ticket I ever got.

This was several, several years ago. My dad was supposed to be driving my mom and a couple sister in laws to an out of state wedding one Friday afternoon (wedding was next day. ) They intended to leave early afternoon, but Dad had a really important, demanding job at the time, and it was more like 6 PM when they left. I think Mom and the others had been waiting in the car, where Dad was working, for several hours by the time he was able to leave... Anyway, you can imagine how upset these ladies were, and still had a drive from TN to Boston to make before morning.

Dad said that car (whatever it was) would run 98 miles an hour. When the state trooper pulled him over, the trooper asked if he knew how fast he was going. Dad said, "Yes, 98 mph." Trooper: "Why were you going 98 mph?" Dad: "Because I am driving these three women to Boston for a wedding, and we left hours after they wanted to leave because I was working, and 98 mph is as fast as this (car) will go!"

He told me that if that car would have gone 120, that's how fast he would have been driving. He figured jail couldn't be worse than being trapped with those (slightly perturbed) women!

My first ticket was 3 months after I turned 16. There was a state boy a couple cars behind me at a traffic light. I was first at the light. It turned green, I mashed the pedal,  burned some rubber and flew down main street of the small town I grew up in.  I rounded a 90° turn without slowing down much and got the 72 Catalina a bit sideways. I proceeded to "warm the tires" like they do under caution in Napcar well over the 25 mph speed limit. I then blew a stop sign at the road I lived on.  All of this was after dark, BTW. I noticed a car pull up close behind me so I mashed the pedal to the floor to pull away from whoever was tailing me......then the lights came on. I stopped right in front of my house.  My parents weren't home yet. This cop was not happy.  He didn't want to take me to jail so he was trying to figure out what to write me up for.  Then my folks arrived home. My dad came out to the road as the officer was looking through his book to see what he could do to keep me from jail.  Then my dad says "What's the matter officer? Don't you know the book??" I about crawled under the dash! Anyhow,  I got "careless driving" and 2 points. I got a ticket every year after that for a decade.... always for speeding.  I haven't had one now in a really long time.  Got sobered up and slowed things down a bit.  😉

Famous lines from old boss riding along in truck and issuing driving instructions: Cop in Boston : "this is a one way street" Boss "we're only going one way" Cop "You're going to have to back that rig out of here" Boss "he don't know how"  Cop "How many times are you goin to go around the rotary" Boss "As many as it takes till we figure out where we're goin"

To Maine State Trooper " What took you so long? I thought you was sending to Augusta for a new ink pen and another book of tickets"

Police at tool booth " You can't drive those trucks on the turnpike without a permit" ( 4 huge Walter Snow fighters 2 prs driving one towing one) " park them over there" in November. Boss in car "Get in boys after you lock them up"  Turnpike in December " Please come down here and get those trucks we'll issue free permits. We don't have anyplace to put any snow"

I was seen speeding in town when I was 16, limit was 30, but I was going maybe 50, but he only saw me from the other direction, but I got stopped a few blocks down the road. Ass chewing, but no ticket. I am now 76 and never had a speeding ticket. The only tickets I have ever had were overweight tickets in trucks I have had. State patrol stopped me a few weeks ago in my dump truck, said he saw the load sticking up and wanted to weigh me. I had topsoil which isn't too heavy compared to gravel. I wasn't overweight, lucky I didn't have gravel on or I would have been overweight.

Cruise control is better than any lawyer until it ain't. Honestly, CC has saved my butt from who knows how many tickets. It's always on and I use the hands for speeding up or slowing down except at red lights, foot rarely touches the pedal.

Cruise control limit + 5 generally. I get passed by most traffic, especially the MA, CT and NY on their way to/from their summer lake homes. There's been so many crashes at the confluence of I95 and Rt 16 that the NH State Police use their airplane to spot. It does circles and radios the patrol cars. They even put temp signs on the shoulder SAYING that's what they're doing but many idiots ignore them at their peril. There's been so many crashes that end up in the opposite direction lanes that a new median barrier is under construction.

AI summary:

In November 2024, former New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu announced a strict enforcement crackdown on Interstate 95 following a series of serious and fatal crashes. He directed state troopers to issue tickets to any driver pulled over on I-95 regardless of the reason during the holiday season to curb aggressive driving.

Yep, why did you shoot him 10 times? Me, because I didn't have my 17 round mag in.
