couple months ago I was fueling up my old Sonoma. saw a girl come out of store headed for a full sized GMC, I thought to myself she will probably hit me .... half serious . Well the truck started backing up and I reached inside the cab while sounding the horn and BANG hit me . it was her boyfriend or hubby driving. Looked like a sledge hammer hit it just above front right tire $2049

I will NEVER understand how anyone, thats male OR female - manages to T-Bone someone on a roundabout, my only assumption is they must be driving with their eyes closed!

from what I see ppl approach them at a high rate of speed and cannot react to another vehicle in the roundabout quickly enough

Seems to be a common practice these days.  That said, I can't talk, I managed to hit a utility pole at the edge of a field in recent history.  Silly thing musta jumped out in front of me while I looked at my phone . . . .

My friends teen girl has a 20-teenish Nissan Altima.  Clean car, loaded, low miles, perfect girls 1st car imho.  Probably $12000 -/+ rig

Lady "bonked" her in town on a 2 lane when the lady was changing lanes.  Her small car hit friends girl right in front of the rear left tire.  Door, wheel well, not terrible really.  Door stuck though.   Insurance totaled it!  Like it need a big day + of hammer and new door.  I would of guessed 5k repair for the door and time.  He bought it back for $?  Drives perfect.  If i took a pic most would be shocked at the lack of damage

2013 or 2018?  I don’t know Altima’s, but I’ve had a few very nice Hondas and Toyotas for my girls when they were younger. I’d think a 2018 Altima could be close to 16-17k these days, a 2013 could be down to 9-10k.   To total something, Is it 50% value?  Maybe 60.

Had dead tree limb 6 inch across at most 4 or 5 foot long drop on the front edge of the roof. One or 2 inch at the most ding, and broken windshield. Three year old Toyota Highlander, insurance was debating totaling it. Something about how expensive the headliner was.

 

I was just glad it did not fall a second earlier. Would of driven right into it and had it come inside with use.

Sorry to hear this Paul. I know they say a round a bout is better but I have yet to see how. They are a nightmare to navigate correctly in any sort of traffic.

The Iowa DOT wants to put 2 roundabouts near my home town where highway 75 and 18 meet. With all the truck traffic on those roads it may be interesting to see how that goes.

They are simply not designed for any sort of truck traffic. Not really anything with a trailer period. I pulled a 43' drop deck around one with a single axle 4900 and no matter what I tried it took the entire circle.

That’s an easy 10k to fix, take it to your preferred shop and talk to them before the insurance assessor comes to see it. I had to fight about my truck when I got backed into but ended up with more than double the claim out of it, which wasn’t any amount of fraud, i just wanted every single thing put back the way it was.

Round abouts just plain suck. I don't care what anybody says. They suck and should be outlawed.

Same as what vtfiremans truck needed, the only way Ford sells that rocker panel, is as a Complete cab side.  Ie, alllll the way around. Bottom, top and sides.  They want it cut out at the factory seams (read if cab around the corner, up through the rear window gasket, across the roof, down the front behind the door hinges)  Huge job. Headliner, interior, seats, dash..glass… Nobody shop is going through That amount of work. I don’t believe.  but they could estimate it that way. The passenger rocker panel has a bundle of about 40-50 wires in it too,  it’s really special in there.
  I’ve seen the cab shells at my dealers body shop. -they only cut out the piece they need. And patch it in.

Only 2!! Be thankful for that! A town 8 miles east of me is getting 4 or 5 of them, and a town west of me is getting 5 of them, I’m trapped by roundabouts! The town east of me can sometimes have traffic backed up for 12 miles with the 2 stop lights, now they think 4-5 roundabouts will make that better? It’s going to be a disaster!!

They city put one in here, our biggest fire truck can’t get around it without hitting the curb.  So they had to change the fire route, added 2-3 minutes to truck trips heading south

Worked on site work for a school project in NH years ago which had a loop for bus pick up/ drop off. We couldn't get around it with a grader. Told architect- she said pave it. So paved with granite curbs. First day of school tire tracks up and over the curbs. Architect said "driver error". Didn't go well. Had to tear out and redo as cost plus since our work matched plans exactly. Was fun listening to some of the comments at public meeting and the meeting of drivers with architect was extra good. Suggestion to get in bus and show them how to do it frosted the cake as it was made by a female driver.

does your roundabouts have an apron in your area. they are made for trailers to  navigate the turn

 I can take or leave them but they have 2 advantages #1 it should slow traffic in areas where nothing else will #2 I am always afraid of getting t boned at 50 plus mph at traffic light controlled intersections which will be catastrophic. you usually walk away from fender benders .

You know, i’m not sure. Only 5 miles away, but I rarely go that way.  I just remember the fire department in the news when they did it

They have put in 3 at certain intersections here with 50 miles of me, sped up traffic especially on one highway and most important saved many lives

Roundabouts seem to stymie those who don't grow up with them. Actually though once it finally clicks in everyone's mind they slow traffic without stopping it needlessly. Most are designed with a 53' in mind with a low curb center meant for trailer wheels to cross. New England has had them for years so they're no big deal to us. When they appeared in Colorado I noticed local drivers had no idea how to negotiate them at first. The alternative is a four way stop that demands a full stop even in the wee hours with not another vehicle in sight. They're all over most of the rest of the world. Open your minds, they're here to stay.

It's actually similar to other traffic rules in that traffic in the intersection has the right of way. If you approach any intersection and there's already a vehicle proceeding from the left it has the right of way.

Traffic in the circle has right of way. The traffic entering the circle has a Yield sign.

I probably drive through roundabouts a few hundred times per week. Very very seldom do you need to come to a full stop to enter the roundabout. Even more seldom do you see an accident. Four way stops and traffic signal intersections seem to have far more collisions. 
There are different sized roundabouts for various reasons. Some are multi lane with wide sweeping turns to move traffic through quickly. Others are tight single lane to slow down traffic and restrict oversize vehicles. And one of the best things is there aren’t any electric traffic signals to malfunction and really snarl traffic like a four way flashing red intersection where 90% of the drivers don’t know what to do.
