oil filter problem

On my zero turn mower with a KOlher engine.   The oil filter keeps working loose. Tried new filters OEM filter from mower dealer Kolher brand.  I'm at a lost on it not sure what to do next. Have thought about using some locktight on it. Thoughts on that idea . Open to any ideas. Thanks

On some motorcycles we used a hose clamp around it with a tab of some sort under the clamp and the rest of it anchored to the frame. Oil pissing on your rear tire can spoil your day.

I had that problem on several of our Kohler engines. I went with the NAPA Gold line oil filter and the problem went away.

That's what I was going to suggest also.  At work we have been seeing some filters that are bottoming out metal to metal before the gasket is fully compressed. That may be your situation.

Aircraft oil filters have safety wire holes and a hex to be able to torque them to spec. Motorcycles have a tab on the frame and a hose clamp. You could attach safety wire to the filter with a hose clamp and safety wire it.

EDIT: Use a WIX filter. As Markin IN said. Some filters bottom out without a good gasket crush.

Really ! ,not run into that issue , thanks for posting interesting . 
maybe threads on block not to spec like not perpendicular to block . 
maybe oil pressure is rotating it off counterclockwise. Make it with the welder s paint stick to see how much it moves , one line on block and one line on filter . 🤷‍♂️

Be sure the threaded stud that the oil filter screws onto is tight in the block. 

I've seen many of these where that is loose and the filter unscrews itself via vibration.

  Be sure even though the filter is OEM that it is the correct filter for the engine.  The thread pitch can vary from engine to engine and will affect the ability to stay tight to the filter basin.

What engine? The filter bosses on the CH series like to warp & leak on occasion.

I use the motorcraft ford filters. FL400s.  $4 at Walmart. 
I like the hose clamp  with a tab or wire idea.

Going to try Napa Gold line filter. Come to find out I am not the only having this problem here in my area.

The timing of this thread is interesting.  I noticed my truck (466) had a small diesel leak under it when it idled in one spot.  Turns out the secondary fuel filter was quite loose and wet with diesel.

I have never experienced that - more often spin-on filters are hard to remove.  That set of filters had been on the truck for a few years now (low use).

There has been a rash of post on knockoff filters online.  Fleetguard and Cat along with Baldwins and FASS have been being impersonated.  They looook almost same.  Little shorter sometimes and paint is def "off".  If cut open they are the 6 fold metal "spring" junk type.  I hate spending $$ these filter cost now days but man.... hate using junk on a important thing like a oil filter.

Had the same problem with a couple of welders with Kholer engines, switched to WIX and problem solved.

I am going to get new filters tomorrow. Debating between WIX or the Napa gold line. I have had good luck with brands in the past .

Napa Gold USED to be made by Wix.  Not sure about that now.

Bought a Wix filter today and put on. Used it for 1 1/2 hrs. So far good. I looked at the rubber seal on it. Looks like it had a deeper rubber seal then the Kohler OME filters.  Like that.  Thanks everyone for your advise.

There are lots of knockoff parts online - spark plugs, O2 sensors, etc. If the price looks too good to be true it's likely an inferior fake. Ebay is full of them. If you see one or two NOS they're probably Ok. If they have "more than 10 available", pass.

only certain carquest are actually Baldwin, the heavy duty stuff all is, some of the lighter duty (car and pickup and small engine) are made by clarcor (I believe) the parent company of baldwin, I believe they are still to baldwin specs but made overseas, some of the baldwin stuff is actually made here yet. This only applies to the premium or Blue line, the Red line is of very unknown origin and in my opinion are garbage, I work at a carquest and refuse to sell a red filter to anyone, I have no say in what the shops around order but for any customer that comes in or is not doing resale I wont sell them one!
