dale560 Posted June 21 Posted June 21 This is the cheese I grew up with and liked. My wife and kids eat other kinds of cheese but the velveeta was the cheese in our house. And a wire cheese cutter. Just added pic of cheese cutter that made it years until wire broke. 2 Quote

They basically take everything sellable out of the milk, mix up some chemicals and sweeteners reconstruct it as milk and sell it for more money. But if you brought filtered milk from a dairy they would spit it out. 1 Quote

A chunk of Velveeta and some hot picante sauce melted in the microwave is good on tortilla chips. We also never had the wrapped singles. They were supposed to be American cheese but when I tried them they didn't taste like the American cheese we had at home and the texture was strange. At home we had Kraft American. It came in a box much like Velveeta but it was solid and not squishy like Velveeta. It had a totally different taste and texture than the Kraft singles. I haven't seen the blocks of Kraft American for many years. Quote

Illini986 Posted June 22 Posted June 22 Count me as one of the ones who grew up with Velveeta and liked it. I still usually have a 2lb. block in the fridge at all times. If I'm feeling comfort food I'll make macaroni and cheese the way my mom did when I was growing up; half a block of cubed Velveeta, a can of evaporated milk, and LOTS of freshly ground black pepper. I love snacking on extra sharp cheddar but some of the best cheese I've ever had came from Brant's Market down in Lucas, KS. For several years I was gifted a couple pounds each of the smoked cheddar and the dill havarti cheese they sold there. Absolutely delicious. I need to see if I can have some shipped here to Illinois. 1 Quote

Dave Shepard Posted June 24 Posted June 24 No Velveeta in my past. I'm ok with American, but Cabot Seriously Sharp is my go to. Blue cheese is good, especially crumbled in salad dressing. Goronzola had it's place, as well. Quote
