stronger800 Posted July 3, 2025 Posted July 3, 2025 Our kuhn discbines have “quick attach” knives. There’s a spring loaded shoe/lever that holds them in. Easy Peazy. Unless you need to change one of the pins that the knives spin on, on the end unit, where the cutter head is driven from. Then a 30 second blade change turns into a 3 hour unbolt and drop the head and driveshaft away from the gearbox. To change a knife bolt, basically. Had this machine 5 years, never knew that was a thing. I think I paid extra for this “quick change” feature too. That took the time that I had hoped to use getting the ford back together. 6 Quote
IHKeith Posted July 3, 2025 Posted July 3, 2025 Removed the DEF tank from this Chevy to replace the temp sensor. It sure is nice to be able to put the truck up to full height, loving the new shop!!! 9 Quote
IHKeith Posted July 3, 2025 Posted July 3, 2025 My friend Mark finished the stereo installation on the old International pickup today. The customer wanted one and the dash was already hacked. He put two 4 inch speakers in the vent holes, tidied up the radio mounting and put an amp in too. 10 Quote

hardtail Posted July 4, 2025 Posted July 4, 2025 Nice job on the engine stand, I always thought that type was more useful, what's with the wood paddle? Quote
PJW360 Posted July 5, 2025 Posted July 5, 2025 It’s for polishing the crank 2 pieces of wood hinges on one end with holes bored to suit your crank journal and a strip of 320 grit abrasive tape lightly clamps it around your journal to give a more uniform polish 3 Quote
PJW360 Posted July 5, 2025 Posted July 5, 2025 And yes the engine stand was made from stuff lying around the gearbox is a artic trailer landing leg shortened and modified giving me a 11 to 1 ratio the only thing i purchased was the castor wheels but it take an awful lot of hours 5 Quote
CRVB91 Posted July 5, 2025 Posted July 5, 2025 Quite a relief, because I thought he'd started building stocks and pillory.. 🤣🤣 1 hour ago, PJW360 said: It’s for polishing the crank 2 pieces of wood hinges on one end with holes bored to suit your crank journal and a strip of 320 grit abrasive tape lightly clamps it around your journal to give a more uniform polish 4 Quote
MT Matt Posted July 6, 2025 Posted July 6, 2025 Built a rake hitch extension for a tandem rake set up. The front part of the hitch is the tongue I saved from a NH 495 haybine. The back section was a pintle hitch from something, was in the iron pile. A buddy gave me the axle setup. He was tired of kicking it around. Just had to square it up and weld the plates onto the pipe and the axle. I’ll probably need to fill in the hoop part but it will work for now. The pipes are just pinned so if I need to adjust the depth of the deeper rake, I still can. This will allow me to pull two rakes that flip in the same direction to move multiple windrows into one. I bought a tandem cart at the last auction with this in mind. 8 Quote
TN Hillbilly Posted July 6, 2025 Posted July 6, 2025 Deep surgery to find the source of catastrophic failure in the old Krone round baler pickup. Once all the way apart, found the roll pin sheared in one of the cam follower arms on the tine arm. This apparently allowed the bar and attached teeth to rotate all the way around, binding with the other bars, bending everything to you know what, and generally bringing the baler to a screeching halt. Probably after all that, repeating attempts to restart the baler ripped the center out of this plate. I think we can fix her no problem, IF this plate is still available... if not, guess I'll try to weld the center back in this one. Might be hard to get everything true... But that may be our only option. These old Krones are good machines, but not terribly well supported 40 years later... 4 Quote
Dirt_Floor_Poor Posted July 6, 2025 Posted July 6, 2025 I am trying to get a hydraulic line out of the Steiger that is clamped to the inside of frame, between the trans, and under the cab. I just can’t understand why stuff is built this way. It certainly hasn’t gotten any better since this thing was built. A manufacturer can turn what should be an easy job into an all day nightmare that leaves you questioning the life choices you’ve made. 7 Quote

forwhldrv Posted July 7, 2025 Posted July 7, 2025 I’m not had a couple wheel weight on the 450 for plow days getting ready for a couple fun pulls next weekend. I’ve got 2000 pounds hanging on the belly bar 1200 pounds on the brackets above the axles and 780 on the mid mount brackets. I finished up by adding a few more wheel weights on it so there’s 7 on each side I have ran as much s 9 on each side at pulls before.i have pulled 25 k with it on the boat before the two different pulls this weekend are two completely different tracks 13 1 Quote
B.B. Posted July 7, 2025 Posted July 7, 2025 Ordered the entire driveshaft for that rotary cutter this morning. 248 bucks for the whole thing vs 50 some for just the rear u joint and 40 ish for the rear half. This will be a new slip clutch and all. Guess I'll have some spare parts for next time. Rebuilt the carb on the 782. Bought a 26 dollar carb on eBay and it's close but not quite close enough. The carb on this is just the single needle carb which works but isn't as tunable as a 2 needle. 8 Quote

If you have a lathe you could chuck up the plate in a 3 jaw and then put something available in the tailstock to center up the broken inner? 4 Quote
5488ih Posted July 8, 2025 Posted July 8, 2025 Took brute force. Only had to heat one wedge. Broke the 1” air impact also. Ran it off of a 4430. 😑 2 1 Quote
IHKeith Posted July 10, 2025 Posted July 10, 2025 A 2020 Sierra Denali 3500 came in with tail light issues. It has aftermarket tail lights and the harness for them is poor quality. Besides the failed connectors and splices in the aftermarket harness itself, it also was hacked into the original harness’s branch off to the marker light above the fender. I questioned why someone would do that to a very expensive truck. The truck came from out west, Alberta I think. Maybe it was from oil money, whether short or long term wealth, they didn’t care about the longevity of their new tail lights because the truck would be long gone before they experienced a problem. It had about 120000km on it when my customer bought it in 2024, so the previous owner drove it frequently enough. New GM tail lights are about 1500 each plus 13% sales tax. I messed around with it for about 7 hours, $30 of wiring supplies and a $120 GM original left side tail light wiring harness. The customer had got Deutsch plug to replace the original plug, he installed the new plug on the tail light harness side and got scared to do the truck side, wanted me to install the Deutsch plug. The original plug is tucked up tight enough to the box floor and near a crossmember and other wiring. It’s a branch off a bigger harness with 6 wires about 4 inches long. Not easy to get to and blasphemous to hack into, especially with such a small margin of error. So I got the GM harness to get the plug, so any hacking wasn’t on the truck side. I could get the harness overnight but just the pigtail was a week away. After getting the left side fixed I had issues with the right side because I had pulled its main connector and the tail light side was badly corroded. There was another plug in the new harness that gave me the terminals to repair that issue. It was one of those “quick” jobs that doesn’t go quickly. “It just needs a plug installed” I’m happy that I was able to make it all work in the end. Who knows how long it will keep working but at least if a guy bought new GM tail lights and harnesses some day it will still plug right in. 4 Quote

Gearclash Posted July 12, 2025 Posted July 12, 2025 Playing with the hor bor. I don’t have much need for a drill press anymore. 40” each of X and Y travel plus about 20” of quill travel plus a bunch of Z travel means one set up will reach a lot of work piece. And this is just a small hor bor. Spindle is at eye height on me in these pictures. 4 Quote
