Diesel jumped 25 cents overnight!! Even with all my discounts, I am still paying over 5 dollars per gallon. Never paid that much before!! Extremely hard to make a quote for freight.

Never underestimate the power of big oil

As much as it stings, I would still rather be in bed with them then the green energy nutz

I know that doesn't help Nick

Hopefully prices will come back down to where they should be.............about half of what they are now.

Stability would help also but oil prices have traditionally been very volatile but that's another topic

Harvest is approaching fuel always climbs as row crop and late season crops. Plus heating season is approaching. I would guess any extra fuel is getting exported also.

Just noticed that local loves truck stop is $5:84 for diesel today.  This is central north Alabama.  Chevron station ( not a truck stop) across road is $5:25.  Bid difference.

Diesel is a worldwide used product. Russia has stopped their exports of diesel due to Ukrainian strikes on their refineries. The Middle East has all sorts of issues with refineries and shipping. There is quite a bit of diesel refining capacity that is gone from the supply side without a decline in demand.

How long have those things been offline?

Expect to pay considerably more in the coming months. The strategic petroleum reserve has been drawn down to cover the loss of heavy sour crude oil in world markets ..ie the ongoing wars and hard to see how it will be replenished.Heavy sour crude is used for making diesel fuel, jet fuel and kerosene which is mostly imported and refined here. The US pumps and refines light sweet crude used in making gasoline and the excess is exported. Our refineries are not configured/able to distill light sweet crude to make diesel fuel. Most of our heavy sour crude comes from Canada,Venezuela,Gulf Of Mexico and the Middle East.Middle East sour crude no longer available to the US and what does get out goes to far east markets.

Time to open all the wells they closed years ago. What ever happened to drilling in Alaska? We have more then enough to supply our needs if it was allowed.

“We” don’t have a nationalized oil industry. The oil and refining companies are free to sell to whoever will pay the most (for the most part). They’re making money hand over fist right now.

The oil, refining related transportation industries are in a strange state right now.

Oil is tight.  The US and some other countries are selling off from their strategic reserves to help out.  Some months in 2026 the USA has been the worlds largest oil exporter. Oil supplies are tight but still ok for now.  If we run out of strategic reserves we will see a substantially higher spike.

Refining capacity is tight.  Especially diesel and jet fuel.  Jet fuel and diesel are almost the same product and Jet fuel is in short supply because of the shutdown of the straights of Hormuz.  Refiners are making less diesel and more jet fuel, driving diesel prices up.

Oil and Fuel is being transported in ways that are different than normal.  Oil and or fuel? is being trucked out of the middle east to ports at least on the Mediterranean Sea.

But if we can settle the war with Iran and get a deal where Iran can resume full exports and everyone has free travel through the Straights of Hormuz, prices will drop substantially.  Additionally if we could end the Ukraine War and get the sanctions lifted from Russia, there would actually be an Oil Glut!  Prices would tank.  The oil companies know this and are not willing to spend alot on new drilling even though prices are high.  They feel the prices are artificially high because of the political situation.  They expect prices to drop soon.

So some companies are making a killing.  Others are suffering.   It might be a good time to step away from trucking for a bit.  It's sure not a good time to be a rice farmer.

PS: Not all fuel prices are up.  I am actually paying a little less for LPG than last year.  LPG does not export well.

They are bringing new fields online. Been very busy here the last few years and should be for years to come. But it takes years to bring a new field to market, which might produce 50,000 barrels a day.

The biggest thing that could help with diesel prices is a limit on recreational air travel.  Remember when all air travel was stopped after the attacks on 911?  What that did to the price of diesel?

Mid to high 5 for diesel

High 4s for gas.

Has not been under 5 or 4 for at least 9 months here.  Massive tax hikes on fuel last 18 months.  WA State is so poorly managed even the last Democrat Governors are out publicly speaking the last and current admin are fools.

That wont help.  There is no shortage of fuel.  We are just being charged the international price because thats what they can get for it there due to all the disruptions.

If the airlines dont use it it will just go overseas.

However in China they did massively and almost over night switch to renewables and coal to cut imports.  Our prices would be even higher if they hadnt done that.
