Add the grain cart at about 15 gallons per hour, the truck at about 10 gallon per hour, it makes a very expensive harvest!

I’m pretty sure that yesterday was a first for me. I put in over $1500 in a single day for fuel! Yes, I was near empty yesterday morning and yes, I took a load of big round bales 400 miles, but $1500 is a lot of money!!

Saw pump diesel for $6.10 in snowville, UT. Every where else to Elko and back was about $5.80. I'm not ordering farm diesel until the dead of winter.

Yeah, pump prices are $6.59 to 5.30 depending on location and company.

Being green is so wonderful, NOT. Probably something like 90% of the extra fuel and gas cost in California as to national average is green carbon taxes. The rest of the extra is special formulations for hopefully less smog. Regular gas is around $6 and diesel is $8.50.

We were discussing at work today how crazy it was to see 5.99 for diesel, so we found an inflation calculator online and punched in $4.00 in 2008 equals what today......

$6.20, so here diesel is still below the 08 prices, but just barely. 

And people are still lined up getting coffee and fast food.

A friend was commenting the other day that it will cost him over a grand to fill up his big 4wd tractors each time...

It'll cost me over $500 just to fill up my 1480 combine!

Probably need a 715 running LPG this year!!!

Haven't seen a combine or cotton picker running LPG since the 80s...

Gas was around $1.25 in 1980.

That's over $5 a gallon equivalent now.

i bought fuel pellets for same price as last year - guess they shipped them/quoted them before fuel prices went up!

Try paying $13 a gallon here in Australia, but there is one thing I wonder about 10 years ago they were tearing down fuel station now they are building them everywhere go figure, am I missing something

All to scale , I believe my 1480 burned about 7 gal per hour, does a machine that burns 26 gal per do 4 times the work ? I suppose a 403 or jd 95 on every section wasn’t cheap either. Still sucks for the guy writing the check.

What are the freight rates there? You have to be able to pass the cost on. Rates should be up around $7/mile, but during Covid, the US brought in 2,000,000 unqualified/undocumented people who “own” their own transportation companies. Then we gave them personal loans to buy their trucks. And we have brokers who are double brokering loads from the Middle East. 
Needless to say, our transportation system is in desperate need of repair.

The constant swing of fuel prices strains us in may ways. 

Truckers deal with it day to day. Hopefully they can pass on fuel surcharges. But that's far from certain.

Farmers and ranchers don't get to pass on fuel surcharges. We take the price we can get.  Who would have put $5 off road diesel into their budget last winter?

I know farmers who have run out of their money (loans) for the crop already. Higher input costs, high irrigation costs due to a long drought, higher diesel prices, etc. 

Something will have to give.

Unfortunately it probably won't be pretty...

Truth is on a non irrigated row crop farm, fuel is barely a spec on the budget. I use roughly 5 gallons of diesel per acre, start to finish with a crop.

If diesel is $3, my cost is $15 per acre.

If diesel is $5 my cost is $25 per acre.

That's a $10 per acre difference,  less than 1 bushel of beans or just over 2 bushels of corn will cover the cost. my time's better spent marketing grain than watching fuel prices.

Local loves truck stop is $6:50.  Shell and chevron stations across road are $6:29 / $5:99.  Gas running $3:74 to $3:99.   If you only spend an extra $10 an acre on fuel, across 1000 acres then that is an extra $10,000 gone. May not break a person but it is something to factor in.

Seed is $120/A, fertilizer is over $150/A. Rent..... can swing $50 a year. Fuel is literally the cheapest input. Heck guys spend more an acre on fungicide and seed treatments. 

If $10 an acre breaks a farm, it was already in trouble.

  What's your program?  How much minimum till and/or no till do you use?.

Should not break anyone.  Just saying $10,000 here/$10,000 there you were not planning on can take a bite out of anyone’s bottom line.
