Sask466 Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 Someone in my mom’s neighbourhood got this picture. I assume fancy camera techniques were involved. (I’m sure it wasn’t that vibrant standing there). I’m curious, the northern lights don’t seem very colourful this summer? To my eyes, they are very bright, but not very colourful. Just about white actually. Has anyone else noticed this? 5 Quote

Sometimes they are pretty faded but here they’ve always been a light green at the very least. Tonight at about 9:00 they were our pretty bright. They were really red for a little bit. Was cold out so I didn’t stay out that long this time. On my iPad now so I don’t have the pics but I did post a few a couple hours ago on the other crop pics thread again. 1 Quote
New Englander Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 I was commuting home last night on an airliner from LA. About over NY state is was getting dark and the captain announced that the Northern Lights were visible on the left side of the airplane. I was sitting in the last row of business class and not one person raised their shade to look. I've watched them from the cockpit on Europe or Asia flights for decades and never tired of it. People don't even look out the windows of airliners anymore. The first they do is pull the shades so they can see their phone better. Where's the wonder of nature? They're missing the cloud formations that are only visible from above. Yeah, a solid undercast is boring but towering cumulus at night lighted by internal lightning can be awesome. 3 Quote
hardtail Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 I haven't seen the colors some posted here but I'm usually right underneath and have to look straight up this past week 1 Quote

SMDFarmboy24 Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 I don't think I've ever seen them before either. I did grab a picture after coming out of the barn stacking hay. 6 Quote

td9bcf180 Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 The N. L. were good around these parts, too. Didn't get any pics, though. For a chuckle- go to the tube thingy and type in "The Cremation of Sam McGee". Johnny Cash has a good version. (The Northern Lights have seen strange sights but the strangest they ever did see was that night on the marge on Lake Labarge when I cremated Sam McGee). Robert W. Service. 1 Quote
