I just read an article that easterday ranch charged Tyson for feeding 200,000 head of cattle that don't exist!

Wow. So many things to consider.

They must have known they would get caught?

Tyson owns over how many cattle in feed lots?

How long has this been going on?

Who else are they scaming?

So were the missing cattle counted in the USDA inventory report?  Would more numbers  mean lower prices for feeder cattle and higher prices in the store?

You guys know about the earps and the cowboy faction, border rustling was huge then and I bet til this day it still is predominant, I can bet Jeff has some stories on the issue, and I meant it as a joke for a company but I bet kanada and US  rustling is going on, and the same as US and mexico rustling.

Its really sad.  Basically gambling...lost $200m on commodity market and was trying to make it up.  They were a respected family.  Friend over there knows them personally.  The dad died in a crazy sad pick up vs his own semi wrong way on freeway few days before this came out.  So...people talk.  Just crazy how Tyson never asked anything.  They trusted them like 1890s.  Friend out in TriCities area sells cattle to Tyson and said the managment there are good people.  Says in Nov they went for a ride with owner to see lots since they had some issues on paper.  After 3 hr tour... "so... where are the rest?".  Remember it is 200k head over 3 to 5 years iirc.  You can find their lots on google maps sat view.  The S lot and Simplot are tied to Tysons plant in Walulla.  Steer never have to get trucked.  N lot is big...54000.  They sold it last week to Tyson biggest competition in PNW.  Going to be big fall.  Like elder to me says.. "imagine being them guys?  Whole legacy and family now mud" (paraphrased)

Think about telling your wife youve been stealing millions to keep up the operations since you made a bad call on the volatile markets

Not to sound crude but you sure it was a accident and not suicide?

It reminds me of a dairyman near me a little over 20 years ago. Nothing crocked but was in serious financial straights. Was out one night and his truck ended up wrapped around a tree. Killed him. No seatbelt or anything and was moving when he hit. No brakes or anything. Insurance couldn't prove suicide so life insurance paid out but the circumstances makes everyone wonder suicide. Life insurance did bail them out, so ?

Hey Troy,  Isn't that the same family that bought the defunct dairy in Boardman a year or two ago?  Lost Valley I think.  Seems like Oregon closed down the dairy and liquidated the animals then Easterday bought the property.  Maybe the cattle are hiding out there.

According to an article I read in drovers they have a capacity of 70,000 head. If that's so how could they owe Tyson 200,000?

This doesn't make sense.

My gut tells me that 200,000 is over the years, a few loads over the past years or decade would add up.

The second linked article Troy put up explains it.  It happened over time.  Fake critters, fake feed, fake paper.

Yes.  The bank closed it.  They got it for theprice of the dirt and had a near new 12000 stall dairy thrown in.  They just applied for CAFO permit.  Be years in OR to get.... i assume it will be for sale in the near future.

They actually have 37000 and 54000 hd yards if the reporter is right (just sold the 54000).  It was over, iirc, 6 years....?

If your bored..... find Pasco wA on google maps.  Satellite view...follow hiway 17 N. You will see Mesa WA.  Pan east slow and you should see Coulee Flats dairy (brothers aquatence) go slight N and E and you will see the N one.  Fairly huge.  Iassume you plains boys know real big lots compared to these but its the biggest in the state.  El Oro NW of them maybe bigger but I have no idea.
