You could try something like Malathion that is available at most hardware stores. It’s an insecticide that is available without an applicators license. I would think it would probably kill them if you got it in the vicinity and mixed it really strong. Spray it with a hand sprayer. If you have an applicators license for a farm, there are much stronger ones available.

My sister just had that problem she boiled a gallon of water and put a cup of dawn dish soap and pored it in the hole she did it early in the morning she did it 2 days in a row she said she did not get them all the first time. She said they were laying dead all around.

I'd mix up some malathion and water and pour a bucket of it on the nest at night. I used to use diazinon but that was outlawed for residential use over 20 years ago. Or as mentioned, a can of gas.

I use a shop vacuum.

I've had luck setting up a hot incandescent work light (500W halogen does the trick) after dark near the entrance then flooding the nest with a garden hose. You'll get a swarm which will flock to the nearest hot thing, the light, then you'll have a nice pile of cooked yellow jackets and a wet hole in the ground.

Best to watch from a distance with a folding chair and a fermented beverage of some sort.

Since I am allergic I would wait until dusk or at least until they settled down. That is if i wasn't down from stings.

Get a one gallon gas can full of gas and put in the pickup cab with me. Once I was satisfied with the cab door over the hole I would Crack the door open and give them a good drink. I had to do that  3 or 4 times a year while I was pulling a mower conditioner.  I think the disk mower screws them up. I haven't been stung mowing since i got it.

I've done gasoline and a match.

Most recently I got stung while unknowingly standing on the entrance hole. I went back 2 hours later with a new can of good wasp spray in each hand and went in blazing. Killed the entire nest all at once and not one got away. By the next day some critter had dug up the nest.

They aren't heavy enough to set off land mines. Dynamite is really hard to get. Lava isn't readily transportable. It's getting harder and harder to have fun now a days...

You can always mix propane and oxygen then add a spark.

Gasoline seems to work well even without lighting it off. But if feels good to light em up!

Or you could try to get some Weevil  Cide (Aluminum  Phosphide). It works really good but is hard to get anymore. Takes extra special permits. Kills every living creature.

I'd try to set up a big pile of tannerite above the hole ....

I can loan you my niece, she’s mean enough they usually just wave the white flag and surrender when they see her with a shovel.

My roommate hit a nest while mowing the lawn on the house we'd rented. After the tirade of curses in Farsi he filled the hole with gasoline, touched it off and watched with a smile and some beer we had left over from a party.

Those Farsi speakers seem adept at such activities 😂

We have bush-hogged several fence rows and no stings, with open station, I believe it is a combination of the rear exiting low diesel exhaust and the bush-hog moving on down the line. Passive yellow jackets, PROBABLY luck too!  Wild honey bees, also no stings either. Wild bee chasers came and captured the wild bees.

I've used diesel fuel and a propane torch several times, the little buggers seem to really like the exhaust not of an old D7E Cat, really sucks when its a high horse open station, when you're stripping for black dirt for a terrace it opens the holes up then grab the truck with the transfer tank on it and give em good dose and light her up! I've had them suckers will swarm the exhaust pipe, I about bailed off with her still in gear a time or two when they got real nasty

Yep.  Makes me smile when those swallows just show out of nowhere by the dozens.
