Steve is in the GTO, retired, late 60's. He's the young guy talking smack to the gentlemen in the Porche.  They left 4 black lines from the light

And the year is 1970?, lol.  Takes me back. BK

Congratulations!   You're the only one I know who got a moose this year.

Thank you. Only one, Really?   I would have thought someone would have been out to your field and gotten one, nothing hanging around the end of the field?

Nothing in the field,   maybe it's because it's warm, but coyotes and wolves being around definitely aren't helping.

Yeah, it drives me a bit nuts, but my wife has always been shy about the haircuts since I sheared them one summer, and I have to say "NO!" About  enough other stuff so what the heck.

I figure it will sort itself out, and low and behold, she wants to go see her extended family in Florida during the holidays, the proper southern aunts and uncles, she is all about clean cloths and yes ma'am and no sir.

Wanna bet those boys are getting a tune up like they are going to court?

Then a storm passed through

we got a 1/4 inch, most of the ponds and potholes froze.  Nearly winter here

Just read an article this morning about a large oil discovery in Alaska (smith bay?). Said it will be a couple years before they develop the field. Can you keep the white dust up north for a while longer?

Inline inspection pig for small bore lines

it inspects and records the pipe so they can confirm the condition of the buried pipe, every inch of it

It is put in the pipeline and the oil pushes it along and it has sensors that scan the pipe walls while it's moving.   I don't know the process for getting them in and out, but I imagine it involves diverters and specific points in the pipeline.

I believe where the pipes come up out of the ground they call that the pig catcher and that's where you catch the pig . Similar to what we do when draglining when we send a nerf Pig through to clean the line out.

My question is on the brand new pipelines that they installed around here they sent one of these things through to inspect it after it was built. Do they chase it through with water then or do they just chase it through with air?

if it is the begining or end of the line they only have one or the other, so they bypass the launcher and load the pig, then close it up tight and send the product thru the launcher, reverse to catch it.  The product pushes the pig on in-service lines, for inspection they use magnetism or other methods to produce a 3D picture of the steel and record the results, then they download the data at the other end.

on new pipe they launch pigs with compressed air to ensure the pipe is clean and then they push a sizing disc thru that shows there is no restrictions or issues.  They may also push a batch pig to fill the line or switch products

Yeah, off to the west from here, time will tell, 1 to 4 billion barrels of recoverable crude they think, maybe, if the data is right

Amazing that the administration has not declared it a "National Monument"!

What's more likely to happen is they will declare the walrus endangered like the polar bear. Then all kinds of hurdles will get in thier way.

The big point from the article is it said "shallow sea"

up up hear if it's shallow enough they get a permit and build an island (or find a natural one) to drill from, much better than a platform.

If they have to put 125 miles of line in to get to the Alpine fields there is some very serious work to bring this to market. Alpine was 20 some miles and on land and they claimed well over 10 million man hours to bring oil into the pipeline
