Why would the greatest country in the world, invent such a despicable product? And put our name on it.

It looks like plastic and why is it so orange!?

Why don't you say something disparaging about 86 series cabs while you're at it? 🤣

Seriously though, have you ever had REAL American cheese? Not the kind that comes individually wrapped (i.e. "Kraft singles"), but actual American cheese from a deli counter? They're not the same. If you can get it, Cooper Sharp.

There is plenty of good cheese made in America. American cheese is a particular style with some goofy ingredients. It only has to be 51% real cheese. There are quite a few cheese companies in Idaho that make real cheese. I'm familiar with real cheese made in America, Karen. Big difference between cheese made in America and "American cheese"

This is what I was referring to.

That certainly doesn't make it sound "scary" or "bad" to me.

Most natural cheeses get all gloppy and greasy when you try to melt them. Not appetizing at all, especially if you're averse to greasy food.

I never mentioned scary or bad, I just implied it sucks. "Not real cheese"

Seasonal Diet: Historically, cows grazed on fresh, spring grass rich in beta-carotene (the same pigment found in carrots), which gave their milk and cheese a yellowish-orange tint. When cows switched to winter hay, the milk turned white. [1]

The Standardization Trick: Cheesemakers began adding annatto—derived from the seeds of the tropical achiote tree—so consumers could enjoy the "golden" premium cheese year-round. [1, 2, 3]

Disguising Skim Milk: In 17th-century England, some resourceful dairymen realized they could skim off the valuable cream to make luxury butter, leaving behind lower-fat milk for cheese. They added yellow and orange dyes to trick buyers into thinking the cheese was still rich and high in fat.

Every time we made a trip down to Minot, we came back with a few cans.  I support American cheese products!

There are other types of American Cheese other than the processed cheese product you buy in plastic. Real American Cheese is a mild, white cheese that comes in blocks and is sliced. Very good.

I buy American Cheese to offend my wife periodically.  She believes the only cheese is cheddar, and the only cheddar is Cabot … she’s not wrong, you want real cheese, you have to come to VT.

Monterey Jack is my favorite but sharp cheddar comes in a close second. Jack cheese just works so good with traditional Mexican food.

But Velveeta sure makes good rotel dip...

Decades ago I stopped in an old country store in Kelso Arkansas (in the Delta).

I bought a sandwich. They asked what I wanted. I told them wheat bread and ham with mayonnaise and all the vegetables. He asked which cheese? I asked what they had? He looked in the counter and said 'yellow and orange'. I said orange.

Oh yeah. They didn't have whole wheat bread. Just white wheat.

Full agreement with ya Cob

Back when the boys were little and so was our available grocery money

We lived off commodity cheese.

They would come down off the rez bringing their "commots" or monthly handout from the gov.

Sell it real cheap

5# bricks IIRC for a few bucks beer money

I'm sure it wasn't the greatest quality but still better than the sorta cheese flavored oil that Kraft sells as "American cheese"

What a joke

I'm kinda partial to CoJack cheese now.

Colby and cheddar jack is what I think it is

I love good white American cheese, its the best.To me yellow is nasty.I also like fresh sliced American cheese. That stuff wrapped in plastic has zero taste. I also like the majority of other sandwich cheeses.Extra sharp  cheddar on crackers is great. Some soft cheeses I like some not.But nothing wrapped in plastic is for me.

Our milk goes to Nasonvile, near Marshfield Wis. they make all types, one that is good at least we like it is Baby Colby, tastes like it just came out of the vat, their cheese curds are well liked around the area,

I love cheese in general. Extra sharp cheddar, Parmesan, Cotija, are just a few I love. But American cheese has its place too, Velveeta, Cheez Whiz, that Easy Cheese squirt cheese are all good at times. Sure it’s processed but it works great for certain things.

All cheese is "processed." It's the original processed food.

I love velveeta. I miss it it was the cheese we had at home growing up. They had some commodity cheese and peanut butter at home once or twice over the years. The local church was distributing it and one of dad’s friends brought some up from Wisconsin where his family lived. From what I remember of the cheese it was very hard and you couldn’t cut it without a chain saw and peanut butter was always separated you needed to re stir it.
