Time for some new work boots,

It's time for some new work boots. This pair of Georgie Boots my son gave me are really cracking the soles. Had them for maybe 3 years or more. I like the 8 to 9 inch tall ones for better ankle support.  Like the Red Wings but they take forever to break in for me. 

I went to the good Feet store a few years ago and had a bad experience with that. Made things much worse. 

Seems llike I have had foot pain issues  for quite some time.

The key to what ever you buy is to buy two pair as you will get more than double the life out of them. I have been wearing Whites but you will cry at the price if you go that route. Hand made in Spokane, Wa. They will rebuild them when you wear them out. Very nice shoes and were pretty easy to break in.

Just priced a pair of red wing 1178's yesterday. 350.00!! Ouch, that's painful.. I've been wearing them since the 90's,

I was a Red Wing guy for many, many years but when they went to china made things went downhill in my opinion.

I've been buying Danner the last few times. Not the best I've ever had but they have been fairly comfortable and didn't feel like I was walking on a steel grid barefoot 6 months after I bought them like the last few Red Wings have.

That’s what I used to wear until they quit making a 12B. I have an awful time finding narrow boots.

I am still wearing Red Wings but am about to give up on them. They are not nearly as good as they used to be. I am only getting a year out of them now and they have gotten terribly expensive.

Go find yourself a real podiatrist, discuss with them what you need in terms if footwear and what you should have in terms of an insole, you can waste a lot of money and endure a lot of discomfort with shoe store foot analysis or guessing at what you think you need online. You want a board certified podiatrist, not a .com with a bunch of weird women with foot fetishes.

For lace up boots I've been wearing Red Wings for years but agree that the quality just isn't there like it used to be. I wear the LoggerMax #620. 

Anyone on here bought a pair from JK Boots out in Spokane? I've looked at them several times over the years but just haven't pulled the trigger.

If you want something a little more stylish you could get some cobra boots!

I've been wearing Justin only for the last 40 years, lace up, cowboy style work boots. They tend to be narrow, but durable. I will only buy oil tan.

I used to buy a new pair of Red Wing 1124 slip ons every other year. Then they quit making them. So I switched to 1105 slip ons. They seemed to take longer to break in even though they are supposed to be the same boots as the 1124, just in a different leather. I've had the last pair I bought for 3 or 4 years now because they have been out of stock in my size for at least 2 years so I'm assuming they aren't going to get them anymore. I used to get Georgia boots but for some reason my feet would stink to high heaven when I wore them. They quit stinking the day I switched to Red Wing. Don't know why. I had Justins once but they had a yellow insert on the sole that would get hard and slippery in cold weather. I had a pair of Dan Post but they were way too heavy.

I have had a set of JK’s for about 5yrs now.  I bought a pair for hiking and non-shop work.  Best boots I have ever owned. 100% leather construction. All materials (maybe not the vibram insoles) are sourced from US.  A nice thing is you can buy them without steel toes if you don’t require them.  

They are custom made to your exact foot measurements.  The fit is shockingly good.  I am a size 12 5E, so boots never fit right.  

They were $499USD 5 years ago.  They are now $877USD when I checked (exact same boot).

I am glad I bought them then - the price inflation means I will never likely afford a pair again.  

Edit - these boots fit large, so you typically size down (i am normally a 13)

One item to clarify with Red Wing (especially for all my American friends!) - they do in fact still make a lot of boots in Minnesota.  They expanded into cheaper lines to compete with the rest of the overseas market.  The leather is even produced locally and processed at thier tannery (SB Foote I think it’s called). 

Go to a Red Wing shoe store and ask for US made models - they still have lots, and they are still good.

I’ve been wearing Merrill  Gortex hiking boots. They’re not really rugged but my feet stay dry.
