acem Posted February 17 Posted February 17 Any experience with Bosch injection pumps made in India? Are they real or counterfeit? I'm having injection pump problems with my 5.9 Cummins with the Bosch VE pump. My local injection shop we've used for decades has closed (retired) so I'm looking around. Found new injection pumps online made in India. Price is similar to a rebuild. It would be nice to have a spare since I have several of these trucks. I want to make sure it's good quality. Pics below. Thx-Ace Quote
brahamfireman Posted February 17 Posted February 17 If your willing to ship an unknown pump from India, I'd just ship your pump to another shop for rebuilding..... Quote
TomH Posted February 17 Posted February 17 Bosch has had factories in India for like 50- 60 years or more. Mainly automotive and truck parts. 1 Quote
CIHTECH Posted February 17 Posted February 17 We've seen a couple of them come thru our pump shop. They could quite possibly be ok where fuel is different than we have available here. We've seen high fail rate with cam plates and rollers. 1 Quote

cedar farm Posted February 18 Posted February 18 I have some NOS 8.3 pumps from CaseIH that have a Made in India label on them Quote

Guess I'll have to work on this one. It's the one I've been trying to remove the kill solenoid from. It would be nice to have one to put on. Then have this one fixed and in storage for use later. I've got several of these trucks. Quote

We buy Dodge engines and pull them down for the, blocks, cranks and heads. Hardly ever use the fuel injection pumps, most times we just rebuild the injection pump that is on the tractor engine. 2 Quote
acem Posted February 18 Author Posted February 18 Thanks. It's the original style pump on a 93 dodge. 3923346 0 460 426 20? (Looks like 5) Quote
chevenstein Posted February 19 Posted February 19 I am 97% certain that those injectors are Chinese knockoffs and the box was reused. I've bought a few parts (lift pumps, injector lines, rear main seal) that had packaging that appeared legit and the parts worked, but between the super low price and something just feeling off about the parts I think they may be counterfeit knockoffs. Cummins and Bosch (and most big companies) make lots of stuff in China and India, but the quality (and price) seems to reflect the brand. The low price is a big red flag for me on these parts. I'd see about getting a used pump from CIHTECH before I bought a part like that from the potential knockoff source. He recently found a good core for me very reasonably (and rebuilt it reasonably, too!). 1 Quote
acem Posted February 19 Author Posted February 19 I am getting a pump and injectors from CIHTECH. Looking closely at the pics. The injection pump says made in India (Bosch does make mechanical injection pumps in India). However the box says made in USA? Plus there is no hologram on the label. So it's probably counterfeit. Had a bearing from agco a few years ago. Bearing was made in Czechoslavakia, box was made in USA. 2 Quote
New Englander Posted February 19 Posted February 19 If it came from Ebay and the price was really good it's probably counterfeit. It really doesn't matter where something is made if the manufacturer is a good one and has good QC. Bosch stuff has come from India for decades and is generally well made but knock-off anything is likely junk. I'll bet Bosch has something on a website on how to identify the real/fake 2 Quote
acem Posted February 19 Author Posted February 19 I found information from Cummins, it's in a Cummins box. It dosen't have the Cummins hologram. I can't find much of anything from Bosch directly. It's like they don't want people to know they are still making them. I guess 'dirty' technology is embarrassing to them. Quote
Sask466 Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Agree probably counterfeit, but Cummins is a very global brand. That 24V 5.9 I recently rebuilt surprised me. So many different countries of origin in one bone stock/untouched engine. These were the FACTORY rod bearings (original one owner truck with 120k miles, confirmed bottom end was never opened up). Uppers/lowers were made in different countries (England and USA). 2 Quote

DL ROW has 1/2 oz of sense remaining. bureaucrats like to reign, on self serving facts. Ask vw how burning 50 gal is better than 8 gal ? $$$ in pc pockets. Had the identical situation /findings 5 yrs ago, risk "counterfeit" or get pc 6mpg. IF pc $400 parts arrive. Quote

Fake parts are a problem in the aviation industry. Yep, big money parts are attractive to all sorts of criminals. The FAA has their SUP (Suspected Unapproved Parts) program to educate operators and mechanics on how to identify them. Too good a price is always an indicator. The government is also a target for bogus parts and NASA has a program to identify those. Money is big and it puts lives at risk. I got curious while having morning coffee. Not directly Bosch but this site references things you've already mentioned: https://quickbitz.com.au/blogs/news/spot-counterfeit-bosch-fuel-injector?srsltid=AfmBOopfBX-DaqZjqz54JDpXm6Wkpgw-cOpa2vQKV0lP3D0qss7H9Upb Bosch: https://www.boschaftermarket.com/xc/en/keysecure Time life parts, especially helicopter parts, are another attractive area for criminals. A large number of helicopter parts are hours or cycle limited - after a certain number of hours or cycles the part is considered no longer airworthy and must be removed. Often the part is stored along with its records in case there's a subsequent extension of the service life where the part can be put back in service to take advantage of the extended life. It's a reason those parts are not destroyed as they may have a value in the future. Unfortunately sometimes criminals get their hands on those items, alter the records, and put an expired item back into service. Helicopters are sometimes humorously described as spare parts flying in close formation but having a bogus part in the formation can ruin your day. As my wife often says: People suck. 1 Quote

You wouldn't believe how many millions in our budget for only the best. Quote
stronger800 Posted February 21 Posted February 21 I’ve purchased akebono and brembo brake parts for my daughters’ civics. I’ve got a neighbor that I’ve seen buy eBay $9.99 rotors Quote
Sask466 Posted February 21 Posted February 21 There is YouTube channel with a guy from Texas (Royal Service maybe?) that seems very knowledgeable- he is very adamant about Akebono brakes being far superior. I had never heard of them. Quote
