IH windbreaker help

Bought an IH windbreaker in really great shape and doesn't look like it's ever been used.   It didn't come with the windows or frame, and has a door.  It's tall enough that it would fit a large row crop tractor and not a utility, but it doesn't fit my M.  Slots for lights are in the wrong spot and I'm not sure what the hole is for on the bottom near the front?  I can't find anything with the part number online either.

It fits a gas or diesel F-504.

Looks like it's in nice shape. You could take another piece of canvas or cardboard to fill the gap up to the radiator if you want to use it till you fins one that is actually for your tractor....

Be neat if the windbreakers were reproduced! I have one in pretty poor shape, but still usable, from an mta that I have been using on my 400 for a few years now.

I could, but I have others, and don't really want to hack into this one since it's in such nice shape.

 

I know you can get a red FEMCO vinyl window breaker new, but I'd really like a canvas IH one some day.   Those would be neat to be reproduced but I don't know how much interest it would draw 

 

Gotta keep looking.

Oh I wasn't suggesting hack it up, just make do till you found something. But if you have others you don't need to do that.

the hole would be for making it easier to check the oil

I have one like that hanging in the rafters of the old cattle shed for my Farmall 340. I would need to look, but I’m guessing it’s the same for the 340 and the 504.

I think so.  Tractors are similar.

That must have been one of the last of the canvas windbreakers and it’s in very good shape.
This is from a 1967 Parts and Accessories catalog that shows the 407021R2 part number. The 1970 catalog shows red vinyl windbreakers.

Boy , do them bring back memories, on the 706 with two row corn picker with the gravity wagon picking corn. The 2PR two row picker was quite an update from the one row on the ole "H". That ole heat Hauser on the 706 was like farming in luxury in late November

Since I can't use the IH one, I also got a NAPA one for a 460/560.   I spent the better part of the afternoon seeing if I could make it work with the brackets I had from an existing hinson heat houser and I think it turned out ok.  Never seen a NAPA one and cant find any info online about it.  NAPA called them half-cabs.

They make a heck of a difference clearing snow.  I tried driving my M around once when it was blowing 30+ with a cold wind chill and I was like NOPE getting a wind breaker.

Those windbreakers are pretty versatile:  I have had the same one on an 826, 756 and a 656.  Goes clear up to the radiator casting on the 656, because it is shorter.  Dash mount is the same, a little bale wire will handle the mounting when holes are different.

I have a 4whldrive pickup and a Polaris ranger with a plow and cab with heat for clearing snow. I put automatic start in my 20 year old truck a few years ago it’s nice to get in it nice and warm dry. I think it would be nice for plow days if it’s chilly out we go to a few over a few weeks the first one it can be pretty chilly at one year it was spitting snow on the way up to it and usually by the last one in the middle of May it’s almost time for shorts. But I do say when your brother brought the H with the windbreaker to Ohio in 80 degree weather it stood out and looked good not that I wanted to drive it around in the parade but it’s something that was a cool option that definitely served a great purpose. If I remember right all those tractors that plowed around buffalo Ny had windbreakers on them

I have been a fan of heat housers, wind breaks or what ever you prefer to call em since my first M.

When it's that cold you are in your winter clothes anyway and that little bit of engine heat and keeping the wind off makes the perfect mix of comfortable

Crawling in the seat is like putting on your favorite old winter coat.

We took that same setup to a chapter 11 state show in 2019 (?) over Labor Day weekend- was supposed to be a fall show- it was about 10 miles from my parents place so my brother thought we could drive his H with windbreaker and M there and back.   It was a 80-90 degree show and we about passed out with the windbreaker on the ride back.  Even with it rolled up to deviate heat out we had to swap tractors on the way home because we were passing out from the heat.  😁

This 656 hydro is only used as a loader tractor so I don't need the PTO for anything else.

I set up the PTO pump and reservoir to run the loader instead of of going power beyond to the 3 spool valve.

This loader has small lines and with use on hot summer days, creates heat in the hyd oil, so by going with the PTO pump with its own reservoir, I can just shut it off when not in use.

When I was growing up we had one on a John Deere B that we ran every day to feed hay and silage in winter. It had a canvas top and a flap that rolled down the back, it was like having a heated cab!
