Plow chief wear parts

Is that stuff available?  I bought a plow with the plow chief set up and was wondering if I will be able to get stuff or if I will have to change it over.

As far as I know, nope. Not a regular reliable supply anyway. Duffield Equipment might have parts here and there.

I've got a model 16 that I believe has plow-chief bottoms on it. I'm thinking now I need to find another and use this one for a parts donor..

There is a guy on YT by the handle of Plow Peddler, says he has IH plow parts. Im just passing the info on, there is a current post there asking for IH plow parts.

There is a plow guy on Craigslist I’ve seen in either Illinois or Indiana if I remember right. Just have to do some searching. Has old plow parts.

Didn’t there used to be IH tillage wear parts called “Super Chief”???? Or am I imagining? Maybe my memory is playing tricks on me?

Yes, "Plow Chief" were one piece moldboard/shin. "Super Chief" came later and were two piece moldboard/shin. I haven't switched one but I think they mount differently also. This came to me from an old time IH parts man and was for the Super Chief parts when I was going through a 311 plow.

I have purchased several of these before.  They are what I used on this 209 plow.  Everything I have purchased has been used for restoration projects, not something I've plowed with.  The quality is not like the NOS, not sure how they would hold up to plowing.

I got a lot of landslides and other wear parts from our local dealer.  But that was probably 20 years ago and came from the discontinued parts warehouse.  I'm guessing most of that has been used up.  The hardest thing I had to find were slats for a Plow Chief slat bottom plow I have.

I wondered but did not know the difference of the two. Thanks for the explanation. I’m interested in finding a plow for my Super C.

Another notable difference is the replaceable "Spear Head Point" on the Plow Chief moldboards.  I assume this was thought to be a cost savings vs. replacing the entire share as often.

Been years but

i I think if you broke the point and the share was still useful you could just replace the point. I think we always changed the pair but like I said, that was in the early 80’s🤕

Plow chief parts are still available.  They aren't as readily available as super chief but they are out there.

On a fast hitch plow for a Super C, where the back of the moldboard says SC, I assume that stands for Super Chief?

The SC would stand for “soft center”. Super chief is easily identified by its more narrow shin, and throw away type share. While some moldboards for super chief are discontinued a quick search of the part number should tell you if it’s super chief.

As mentioned by another poster the SC on the moldboard doesn't stand for Super Chief.  If you have a C-20 plow that was from the same timeframe as a Super C it would not have Super Chief moldboards unless someone has converted it.  The Super Chief moldboards came out later.
