Was going to reorder hydraulic oil in bulk, our dealer slowly did switch to the newer version, however after talking to them today he said they still offer the older version in barrels , would have to go and pickup not a big deal though,  the next comment was they might in the future offer the viscosity on the truck if enough demand , I can see the new oil for the CVT tractors but have always wondered about all of our older tractors, everything we run is 7120 and older down to the 350, probably will never be a CVT on a smaller farm, so I wonder about the mixing? so far we have used the newer stuff and nothing has fell apart, we are going to put the T.SA. in the 1066, would be a good time to switch back, SORRY for the oil controversy, but as I told the dealer going to be 69 and and chances of a fancy tractor with a fancy transmission are going down, This newer stuff is different but didnt think we had a choice.

What is the 7120 using for hydraulic oil currently and in the past?  There have been some problems with that era of CaseIH tractors always and only using each successive version of HyTran. There may be reason to go away from the Viscosity formulation altogether.

Yes we had issues with the Shell branded hytran

is the Shell branded the new Hy tran? there is about a 2 to 4 dollar a difference around here between the 2, whole thing got started because we are into weight limits, called another dealer knowing they dont offer bulk delivery, he said 17.26 in a 55 gallon, and this week 10% off for viscosity, they are a single prop. dealer, sells 3 to 1 of viscosity to the new hytran, possibly because their customer base could be old like me? the other dealer is multi locations and does offer bulk, when the switch happened a couple of years ago, there was no choice, however the multi dealer did say if enough demand we will offer the old version, being that the chances of a tractor actually needing ti probably will not happen here at my age I said put us on your list

Shell is the new provider to CNH

Dealers are free to sell whatever oil they choose, but there are financial consequences with CNH if they don't move a certain amount of CNH lubricants. Or so I've been told.

If a dealer still has "the old stuff" in CaseIH barrels, it's old stock. It's been 4 years so they must have ordered a warehouse full if they still have any.

What’s the “old” version to look for?
Or the new “old” version?

I order which ever is cheaper, my dealer has had both ever since shell took over. I have an order in now for 170 gallon bulk coming in next 6 weeks. The CIH branded was cheaper in prepackaged, 30% off last month, no discount on bulk till this month but only 5%.  The CIH barrels beat viscosity bulk by $40 on the whole order, did not want to deal with barrels so paid a little more for viscosity. So bulk to bulk viscosity a little cheaper, but CIH in 55s cheaper than viscosity bulk. Seems to alternate from order to order price wise between CIH brand & viscosity. My last order was CIH, one before that was viscosity.

Viscosity branded hytran is the older of the two versions available

Because bulk was discontinued we got our own diaphragm pump and pump totes or barrels into our bulk system. No hand pumping necessary and we can use the hose reels

Yes, when i ordered i look for the cheapest but for $40 i did not want to empty barrels into my bulk tanks. Have never tranfered any but could of held the barrels over the tanks with telehandler but not worth my time & phantom loss of some oil for $40

So why did Case Ih quit the viscosity brand in the first place, was it not good enough for the newer tractors?

$$$$  would be my guess

I doubt that as Hytran Ultraction (a Viscosity product) was a reformulation specifically for the newer tractors (read that to mean the CVTs where Hytran Ultra was found to be inadequate).

Very possible but I would be surprised if the elimination of zinc (ZDDP) from the oil wasn’t part of it.  There is a push to eliminate at least the zinc portion and in some cases also the phosphate portion of antiwear additives;  ZDDP of course has both.  Both zinc and phosphate are considered environmentally unfriendly.   Looking through the MSDS of Hytran Plus or whatever they call it now, I saw nothing that had either zinc or a phosphate group in it.

Per our Viscosity rep, he said CNH followed in Cat and Deere's foot steps. Meaning they put their oil out for bids by specification

Was at a local open house today Cen Pe Co rep was there that oil sounds like the real thing, 28 bucks a gallon

I don't think I can afford cenpeco ..... Every time I have checked it's been much higher than the original hytran
