A lot of ratchets can be made to work like new by removing the internals, cleaning them and putting back together with new lubricant. Be careful when taking it apart that the BB for the ratchet detent doesn't fly across the room (don't ask how I know) I like to use white lithium grease skimmed inside. It seems to last well. I know Snap On has specific grease for inside ratchet heads.

This came from an old time IH parts man years ago. Gives numbers for bolts and such. I'm not around my wear parts manual or parts interchange books right now to look at anything else. I second the "deep suck" points is probably what you have. I prefer them here over the other styles personally.

The earlier built 686's had the 312 also and would be basically the same physical machine. Found this pic years ago of one but I'm guessing it was over 7K in that pic.

Nice deer. We scored mine from this year yesterday. It grossed 158-6/8". The best scoring deer I've ever shot. 15 scorable points, 18-3/8" wide.
