Buying trucks out of state

I’m really trying to think of the last time I’ve seen a 90’s body style ford that’s still being driven. I had a 2011, so I notice them when I see a clean one still. It’s very rare. I had a ‘05 new before that,  I know a guy who just scrapped one of those,  it was rough years ago.

That’s 2 weeks ago, we have a local vet still driving one daily.

I know guys that have beautiful ones tucked away, but that’s what they’re into, and they have all sorts of stuff that rarely comes out of their “museums”.

However you need to understand. I live in a ranching/redneck area. Old 4x4 trucks are pretty popular so go clean ones are not normally cheap. Most are ragged out.  Clean trucks are more available in urban areas like Dallas.

My last D250 Cummins came from south Florida. Only rust is on top of the Cab from salt in the air. It lived close to the coast. My brother found it for me.

 

I have heard that coastal trucks from the south east tend to rot from the inside out. Any truth to that?

From what I've seen they tend to rust on the top sides, through the paint. Especially in places where the rain collects.

Unless they were driven on the beach alot the bottom side will be rust free.

This truck lived less than a quarter mile from the beach for over 25 years. Some rust spots along the top of the cab need repaired but that is all. The frame is perfectly clean.

Nothing serious, just looks a little bad up close.

When I was looking for a newer replacement, I searched on Google and looked at several on line before I finally contacted a dealer.  I wanted a Ram 3500, 4dr, LB, Cummins, manual 2WD, because I pull a 35-(now) 40' fifth wheel camper as well as a 25' gooseneck flatbed to haul occasional machinery. They are rare! I live in Nebraska, so many available trucks were well used or 4x4, which I think I can do without. I found one in Sioux Falls, SD that had come from OK and used to pull a camper.  I have enjoyed it, and it only had 225,000 on a '15.

Here's a truck for sale across the border in Oklahoma. Ranches put bale beds and feeders on them. They are really hard on trucks.

Once a truck becomes a feed truck it's doomed...

If it's too nice for a ranch some redneck will buy it.

A 4wd is like a status symbol here.

I think 4wd is useful on occasion but is way overrated.

Older 4wd trucks and jeeps are in high demand here. There are better deals in urban areas.

For me 90% of the time it's just a mileage killing unnecessary weight, the other 10% it's a necessity. That's the issue. When you need it you really need it.

When I see a dolled-up 4wd without a scratch on it in a no snow state I'm pretty sure the farthest it's been off road is in the driveway. The brush guards and light bar look cool though.

I bought my most recent truck from Oregon.  After having to retire mechanically good trucks (3) rust, I started looking all over the country.  My son had gotten his dually from northern California.  At any rate, my 94 Cummins, auto, single cab is the best truck I have ever had.  Working on it is not bad as there is about no rust.  OK, it does need paint.  NY salting rots out a lot of trucks, cars, bridges etc. etc.

Yes our bridges are continuously getting sand blasted and painted here, to be rusty2 years later. I willsay that 95% of trucks in NY are 4wd, if not more

Very few suburban people have a lifted up halfton with Rollbars and brush guards anymore, now they all drive those 70 or $80,000 jeeps with the factory 35s and off road/zombie apocalypse packages

I have bought 4 trucks out of TX and California, had one shipped and it was from a dealer and 3 I drove home . I would not wire money or send a chashiers check / never !!! You have no idea who you’re dealing with on the other end . There was a 05 Dodge Ram I’m not finding a picture of that one .

Oh yea!

Dont wire money.  Have buddy who lost 60k.  Even had local dealer look up the trucks VIN.  Everything checked out.  Wired money....never heard from guy again.  FBI told him he was 22nd guy who was scammed with same pickup.  Very pro scammer.  Moral of the story...plane tix are cheap.

I wouldn’t send much money to a random guy, but if he had what i wanted, and felt legit, I’d send him a  deposit.

Around here those trucks a called "pavement princesses"" with the fitting "driver" type. . Most times they don't even haul the trash in them.

Central California has good number of older trucks listed on Craigslist and FBM. Lately a lot more of 50's and 60 trucks being advertised. I have an 87 F250 4x4 with early 7.3 and C6 transmission. Unknown miles, all gauges operate at about 1/3 of what they should read. It shows 160,000.  The extra cab and long bed make it longer than the single cabs I have pulled trailer with, so not in love with it.

Ok, so I saw a dodge today with 2 full sized doors plus maybe a foot more behind the door. Do they have 3 cab sizes in 4 door? It was a short box dually, which I thought was a little different.
