I was at work, we were listening to Howard Stern and at first thought it was a joke. A guy ran home and grabbed his portable TV and we watched the second plane hit the second tower.

Not to take away from the somber gravity of today, but it is also the 50th anniversary of the introduction of the 86 series.  I would post the advertisement that says "Coming September 11th..." which shows the tractors covered with custom tarps being hauled down the highway on a flatbed, but the pictures still don't work, so...

What does it say, Ace? I don't know how to do Google translate.

It says alot. Basically how the events unfolded in their offices. Everyone was slow to understand what was happening all over the world. Read the words and keep scrolling down. The videos are not translated on my phone. The transition is not perfect but good enough.

Al Jazeera was the only news outlet in Afghanistan at the time so they had many scoops and the only footage at the beginning.

It changed the world forever. The middle east of more than anywhere else.

The vast majority of Arabs and Muslims were appalled by what happened and had nothing to do with what happened. But it effected them greatly.

With your android phone, pull up the page. Look for the android menu, three dots on my phone. Open the menu and scroll down to find translate. That's how it works on my phone.

At least some remember. Clearly a lot of people have forgotten or never actually cared. There was a short time when we were all united after this event. It sure didn’t last long. New York City today, what can you say?

If anybody wants to bookmark this (it's a big time sink) there is a new documentary chronology of the day out.   It's a compilation of everything- ATC and the airlines, NEADS trying to figure out fighter scrambles, fire and police dispatch, major and local news stories, bystander conversations and film, etc.  There's a TON of footage I've never seen before.   It's excellent, I've only gotten to the sixth episode so far.

We shouldn't let our guard down there is plenty waiting for their turn to take a crack at us.

A plane flew over our place the next day it was the Civil Air Patrol flying blood to NYC.

I was in NYC just a few months ago and was talking to a cab driver who had just had come up from the memorial. I asked about how many visitors came there, his response was between 5 and 10 thousand a day. It was nice to hear that , people do remember.

My brother in law was living in NYC at the time. His wife worked in the UN building.

They closed her office and she had to walk home as public transportation was closed.

I knew a woman in the Air Force stationed at Barksdale AFB at the time. Bush landed therei n AIr Force One that day for safety. He was in the air when the attacks happened. She said security at the base was crazy until he left.

She was a B52 fuel system mechanic. She said a few weeks later they started bombing Afghanistan from the base with the B52s. They flew from Lousiana to Afghanistan and back nonstop. They did required maintenance when the planes landed, refilled with fuel and bombs then were sent back on another run. The pace was impressive.

I was on my way to work when I heard it on the radio. My daughter was 7 and my sons weren't born yet.

I was at work. We found a TV and watched reports and replays of the video available.

My youngest was pretty small, but he knew and talked about bin laden for a while.

There was an interesting segment on 60 min the night before. Won't say what it was, but I always thought the timing was both ironic and strange.
