jeeper61 Posted June 20 Posted June 20 Yes the socialist party let in all the new comers to keep their house seats with no consideration of what it did to the population here already. It created a housing shortage held wages down and then burdened all the social programs that weren't funded for the additional folks. Quote
766 Man Posted June 20 Posted June 20 7 minutes ago, MTB98 said: Take Lexington, NE for example that was recently in the news for the Tyson plant closure. It’s a small town of 10,000 people which had 3,000 working at Tyson. There aren’t 3,000 jobs available there now. According to BLS there is exactly one person per job opening. It is highly unlikely that every job seeker is qualified for each job opening let alone be in the right area where the job is available. Matching skills with required qualifications can be a major obstacle for employment. A reason that hospitals have to advertise well out of the living area to fill positions. But it should also be said if a person is going for an advanced medical degree that they understand they may have to move far from home at least initially to get a job in their field. But i agree that a need to be with family is paramount for many and helps maintain social structure leading to fewer mental health issues and potentially crime. Quote
pt756 Posted June 20 Author Posted June 20 When a place like Tyson closes, arent the majority of the workers that work there probably immigrant labor? Also at least around here in central wis. if one of the plants close it would be a disaster, local schools are way over half non local kids, Local city has at least 10 large apartment houses for housing, 2 story size, The other thing I have noticed is hard time filling job openings, county road jobs, use to have way more applicants than jobs available , now they have to beg for help, those county jobs use to be the best out there, Back 10 years ago out township grader guy was moving on, we advertised had 20 applicants, recently local townships are lucky to get one person to even apply,so there are a lot of 60 to 80 year old grader guys still going, Quote

You don’t, but moving is very expensive especially if you go out of state and need to transfer licenses, vehicle registration, etc. You’re saying Tyson was employing illegal workers? How many of the three thousand were here illegally? Even if it was half or 2/3 there won’t be 1,000 job openings there. There will be fewer overall jobs because a large portion of those 3,000 people will relocate taking demand for goods and services with them. 27 minutes ago, Lazy WP said: Take out the illegal workers and Lexington has plenty of jobs Quote
CIHTECH Posted June 20 Posted June 20 Around here on the town side of the hill, developers and building contractors are building duplexes as fast as possible. Filling them up with people. On the other side of the hill the farmers are building 2nd, 3rd & 4th poultry houses complaining about duplexes being built on farmland across the hill. They are not willing to work the poultry processing plants themselves or their children yet want to raise as much poultry as possible. The processing plants are ran by immigrant workers, that farmers forget need a place to call home, churches, schools, grocery stores and other infrastructure to support them and their lifestyle. Help wanted signs on every street corner, for whatever job you desire. Quote

acem Posted June 21 Posted June 21 I'm not saying Communism is the way to go. It's just the only form of government that provides full employment. They find a job for you to and a place to stay whether you like it or not. Show me your papers comrade. Otherwise market forces will cause some areas to have unemployment while others have not enough workers. It's just the nature of capitalism. 2 Quote
Lazy WP Posted June 21 Posted June 21 I truly believe that the United States as a whole has gone backwards since the draft was dropped. I think that every young man should spend a couple years away from mommy and daddy. I say this as someone who missed the draft by a couple years. Quote

In the science fiction movie Starship Troopers you had two classes of citizens. Normal citizens and veterans. Military service was voluntary but veterans had more benefits. Quote
MTB98 Posted June 21 Posted June 21 Forced labor. Forced work requirements. Forced military service. Forced relocation. This coming from the people talking about the virtues of unregulated free market capitalism? Freedom. It really does go full circle from either direction to authoritarian totalitarianism. 1 Quote

The draft is alive and well. If it’s not, then why are men still registering for the Selective Service? Freedom means freedom to fail and having to suffer the consequences of bad decisions. If working less is good to get free food and healthcare, what if everyone did it? How long before the entire house of cards collapses? You think people with any brain cells at all will work hard just to make sure that all the low life’s don’t have to in perpetuity? What happens at 50 trillion national debt? 100 trillion? 1 Quote
766 Man Posted June 21 Posted June 21 The draft is not a cure all. While this country will print money to cover a lot of nonsense having a person in the military requires money to cover their living quarters, uniform and food among other things. This would require more money raised through taxes or deficit spending. Compulsory service is a good thing but should not be limited to serving in the military. Also, the local community has many needs without sending a person thousands of miles away. A distant assignment might be appropriate as a punishment for a minor youth offense. 2 Quote

acem Posted June 21 Posted June 21 Healthcare costs are causing problems worldwide. But it seems to be bigger here in the USA. Insurance and health care companies are milking the US economy. They just make a cut and spend the rest on health care. Approximately 80% of healthcare premiums are spent on healthcare. The remaining 20% is bureaucratic costs, advertising, profit, etc. The more it costs, the more they charge, the more they make. People like Warren Buffett are making a killing Quote

Easier in health care as supply is limited in terms of equipment and personnel. Quote

And I doubt the other country numbers reflect persons who bought private insurance so they can been seen in a timely manner as is happening in the UK Quote

Now let’s compare obesity, prescription drug use, life expectancy etc. Quote
