That’s a very good looking 856!!

And how! Those tractors of that era just looked tough. So much cooler than the stupid looking designs of today.

Keep your 856 as is, and just go out and get her a stablemate- perhaps a 1256, 1456, 1066, or 1466, and then you’ll have your turbo.

1, your never going to find an M&W.

2, you should just find a 1206/1256 setup for $2500 and put it on.

M&W were pretty conservative on the boost pressures

most that I have seen on the dyno run about 10 to 15 psi

Common on a factory setup in the '66 - '86 series to hit 20 psi

the DT-360 in my dump truck will get 28 psi easily pulling a load uphill

Modern tractors are common to get 35 psi range

Guys

This tractor is setup exactly how i want it, it is still a work horse on the farm,  i don't need another tractor to fix and maintain.

I have a 1256 donor engine for the parts but then you have to change the hood as the exhaust is in a different location, I've decided i don't want to do that.

It doesn't do heavy work any more, pulls around 8 ton of fertilizer, pulls the land roller and does the side dressing, all high speed tasks so no worries about over loading the final drive, just need to be around 125 horse, was hoping one of the new M&W kits was still around, i should have bought one a couple years ago when they were still making them.

Beautiful Tractor.
Would you be interested in selling any or all of the turbo stuff from the 1256  engine?  With the MW turbo on our 856 I had the pump shop set the pump to “150” when we have it  rebuilt, but I am not sure it makes that much.  It’s all of 125-130 though I’m sure

Just turn the pump up a bit.

So you want to spend a lifetime finding parts and paying 3 times the tractors value, to piece together a crappy M&W setup vs using the factory setup because you don't want to find a hood??????

Both my 806 and 856 have the factory turbo setup. Swapping the hood was the easiest part.

If you find the casting you can find a Rajay turbo easy enough.

You can usually find used take off kit for around $1500.

Where??? sign me up for 4. I can sell my 2 factory setups for $2500 each and then have 4 turbo tractors for only 1K out of pocket.

I've seen a few on facebook Marketplace in the last few months for $2000 range.

One on there now for 966, $1500.

I'm well aware they're different.

Who’d really buy a MW for a 400 series though?  I went to look at a 966 that the guy told me had a “1066 style” turbo set. up….but it was a MW, the plumbing looked congestive and one hose was cracked.

I guess if you didn't want to mess with modifying or replacing the fuel tank it's the way to go. Air cleaner housing and filters were diffferent from a 9 to a 1066.

I had a 966 with the M&W setup on it, ran 125 HP easy.  Didn't stay cool with the 4 blade water pump and thinner radiator and 4 blade fan.
