It has become a mouse house complete with a well stocked pantry. I was storing some parts, old books and service manuals in the drawers. I have a file cabinet next to it that I'm afraid to look in! I haven't been in the drawers for so long because I haven't needed anything from them and I had an old snowmobile blocking them for several years. Now I'm cleaning and rearranging things in the shop and find this. I HATE MICE! 1 1 5 Quote

I've had this bucket trap in the shop for at least 6 months and this is the first mouse I've caught in it. Baited with peanut butter and Tomcat mouse bait. I didn't catch any with the plastic ramp that came with the trap. I added a 1X4 wooden ramp a couple days ago and finally caught one! I have other spring traps around the shop and catch one occasionally. I used to have a shop cat and never saw any signs of mice when she was around. She came and went as she wanted. She'd hang out in the shop for a week or so then be gone for a couple of weeks. She was around for several years then left one day and never saw her again. Quote

vtfireman85 Posted February 26 Posted February 26 I have had similar luck with the manufactured bucket traps, a dowel or similar with a bottle on it smeared with peanut butter (drill a hole in the top and bottom) then a notch in 2 sides of the bucket to hold the dowel, i drill a fairly large hole in a short board and slide it over one end of the dowel with a couple inches of RV antifreeze in the bottom of the bucket. Catches them all day long. Quote

If you start it they may abandon ship, otherwise they live, reproduce, and die in it. All the traps and poison around the outside do no good. So, electric mousetrap to the rescue. Caught 4 in about as many days, no activity last couple of weeks. That trap wasn't cheap, $35 maybe? But it's been a rockstar! Caught a number in the house garage too. The only thing missing are holes in the bottom half to be able to drown the captives. Those are rats. And maybe pets as well. If you want to spice it up spread peanut butter all over the top where they tell you to and pat bird seed that has sunflowers in it. Those bucket traps are worth every penny! FoxrunFarms02 Posted February 26 Posted February 26 our farmette sat empty for 5 years. I had mouse condos all over my shop. The 1st winter was bad. File cabinet of manuals destroyed, under my table saw in saw dust they'd hang out. After Cheyenne and Chevy came abouts things got better. I also use Rubbermaid containers with corn meal, baking soda, and bird seed or whatever mixed together and a hole in the side. Apparently the mice can't burp and expand. There's signs they were in the box but never seen exploded pieces. 3 Quote

She's Pyrenees and Akbash and has decided that the cats belong at the barn. When they come across the yard she rounds them up and back to the barn they go. There is one cat that the dog seems to tolerate better than the others. Maybe I can work out a truce so I can have a shop cat again. 1 Quote

I opened the cabinet to check the backup battery, and found mouse droppings all over the floor of the cabinet, appears they came in from the grommet hole for the branch cable runs. I vacuumed it clean, they still are roosting there. Our cat is probably just seeking new friends. I decided to seal the holes with spray foam but they probably would just make a nicer habitat. I have not find any chewed up wiring here but the ply havoc on the 2013 nissan. 2 Quote

MT Matt Posted February 27 Posted February 27 Went to Iraq in 2003-04 with the National Guard. We were Engineers and we lived in tents for the whole event. Always had a mouse problem because it was cooler and always some type of food around for them to get into. One day I was on a dozer. Full gear which included Kevlar helmet. Had a liner and pad in it. At about 3 pm I felt something run down my neck. I thought it was one of those giant camel spiders and I swiped it off quickly out of reaction. But it was a mouse. The little turd had rode around all day with me in my helmet liner. I got on the machine early that morning and only got off once to eat an MRE but never had my helmet off. At least it wasn’t a spider!! 1 5 Quote

I remember surfer Joe talking about running cabless Eimco dozers in Nam and snakes landing on your lap, he said visibility was great but you were first to arrive at the party, that design dozer probably wasn't the best choice for jungle military operations 2 Quote
