Fast Hitch Hook Dimensions

Hey folks -

I know several of you guys have tractors with fast hitches, and the hook to release the latches. The one for my 450 is missing, and I'd like to get the dimensions so I could build a reasonable replica of one from 3/8" rod. If anyone could take a moment or two and post some measurements, I'd appreciate it!

I can measure the one on my 560 if you think it would be the same let me know.   By the way, a tractor junk yard would certainly have one.  Im positive Mel’s Green acres in Ulysses Nebraska has some. His number is 402-270-1339

That would be helpful, thanks! I know I could get one from the parts guy an hour up the road from me I'm sure, but I already have the 3/8 rod and need a shop project to pass a cold winter afternoon.... It's more of a "lets kill some time working with steel" vs. a real need for the tool. Funny think is, I only have two fast hitch implements; a 311 plow and a c-200 blade!

I have been around fast hitches all my life and i never knew that such a tool existed. i have a 560 and an 856 that was bought new and i have never seen one. Was it an option or should it have come with a new fast-hitch tractor ?

It's my understanding that they came with new tractors. IH part number is 360378R2. Part #20 illustrated below:

Well if it did, i don't ever remember it, but i was only 5 years old when my dad bought the 856. where would it have been stored.

It originally had a cab,that i foolishly removed and sold " i hated that sweat box".

In the diagram above, #'s 18 and 19 are clips that bolt to the deck (at least on 450's and 560's) that hold the rod there next to the battery box. My 300 has a loop on the deck at the left rear that allows the hook to be stored hanging behind the axle. The 50 series moved them up to the deck. It's my understanding a lot of them were lost/thrown away as people converted over to three point implements.

Must have been a rare option. We have and have had multiple 460/560's. Non had those little brackets. Looks like one more thing to avoid when getting on or off.

That's interesting... I was always under the impression that all fast hitch tractors came with one. My 340 utility had one (sold w/ tractor) and I guess I just assumed that was a standard issue thing.

The little clips are usually broken when you find em in a junk yard .

Good question. I may built one for my Super C. Don’t know if dimensions were different or not. I have learned since getting the Super C, there was a clip on the steering pedestal where the hook would be stored.

Which is why many of them were removed and parked in the archives like pto shields.

Really cool. I never new there was such a tool and always wondered what the little loop near the gear shift was for

They're an interesting accessory in my opinion, and a necessary one if you're a lazy man like me!

Did you know that there is a tray under the seat inside the tool box?

Did the newer tractors like the 806/ 856 have one? Or did it end after the 60 series?

My 450 came with the hook, doesn't have that front bracket though. Can't believe it didn't get lost! If I ever get that silly thing running, I'll have to make a bracket for the front anchor point.

Ok so , behind the little wedge shaped door with the IH logo on it originally had a tray that was perfectly shaped to fit all the contours of the seat pedestal. 
Although i can only speculate due to size that most of these trays went by the way of the PTO cover and fast hitch pull handle as mentioned by drysleeves.  Here is a photo of the tray and the trap door where IH intended it to go.

 

Evidently back in the day, the amount of tools a farmer may have carried with him to the field was significantly less then today.  
perhaps it was a good place to store your lunch instead.
