Farmall Doctor Posted May 24, 2025 Posted May 24, 2025 Our friend went back to the Buffalo. They lost power, lost anchor, got stuck in the trough off of Duluth, got their rooms tossed in a bad roll. First week on, and I'm getting distressing messages... ugh. Hang in there, Sailor. Quote

AngrySailor Posted June 5, 2025 Author Posted June 5, 2025 Same old on the ship, fixing busted stuff. Nothing too exciting, mostly getting PM’s caught up, about to tear the main oil pump apart from the generator the blew up and see if it’s salvageable. It ate a lot of metal. There’s a suction screen on the pick up but it’s fairly course…. Ordered a pile of AN fittings for the boat cooling water and oil plumbing. Picked up a “pool and spa heater” to use as an oil cooler. It’s a little shell and tube heat exchanger, the tube area is a good bit larger than the oil plumbing so it shouldn’t be a restriction. Nice stainless piece, rated for 280psi… should work minty. Going to use these PEX style crimp hose clamps where required. Should look slick compared to bulky old gear clamps. 5 Quote
AngrySailor Posted June 7, 2025 Author Posted June 7, 2025 Pops and my friend pulled the trailer out from under her today. Trailer getting tandem axles, running boards and fenders then a sand blast and paint. The boat is getting some cosmetic glass repair and a quick touch up for now. Probably paint it this winter. 5 Quote

560Dennis Posted June 8, 2025 Posted June 8, 2025 What’s your opinion on the Simms injection pumps? I know you worked on them successfully . Diy should avoid at all cost or what else? I think they are used on the ford 5000 Quote

Diy should avoid at all cost or what else? I think they are used on the ford 5000 They’re probably fine if they haven’t sat full of water like the one I repaired did… I had a heck of a time fighting a hunting situation with it but that seems to be a known issue and simms made a rack damper to help. It could be that that engine had other mechanical issues as part of the cause of the hunting, it threw a rod not long after we got it running. I did an oil change before it left my shop and I told the guy it hadn’t been done in ages and didn’t look good so… what’s the issue with yours or the one you’re looking at? Parts can be a little hard to get. Probably have to get barrels and plungers from UK… 1 Quote

AngrySailor Posted June 11, 2025 Author Posted June 11, 2025 Got pops flat out at my shop 😆 he’s tearing down the 221 ford flathead rn, also helping with fhose fitting lists for the blower motor. Have to find a small Morse control cable for the fuel shut off next. I’ve got the one way ratcheting clutch on the way for the V drive, also have a little damage on the input shaft I’ll fix when I get home. Probably machine that shoulder back and put make a washer for the gear to seat against. Found a vintage set of torque thrust knock off rims 14” with 5x4 1/2” pattern. Think I’m going to score those for the boat trailer. Should clean up ok, could even paint them orange and yellow to match the boat. I’m doing relay surgery rn, this little OMRON relay is for our control air compressor and we have no spares. It’s an AC coil and they sent us DC relays… gutting the contacts from the new DC relay and putting them in the shot AC coil relay… $30 part about to stop the ship 🤯🤣 They’re working on getting us the right stuff at least. 7 Quote

Actually got an English F I gotta go pick up also so 9 total… a couple are frozen real bad but there’s a few blocks kicking around. Also tossed the idea around of removing two pistons and plugging the cylinder bottoms, leaving the valve lifter out of those cylinders and running the busted engine as a 2 cylinder lol. Depending on which bores are busted it may end up even or odd fire… odd fire it would sound like the hart parr or a JD twin… probably have plenty of power for show duty too, just needs to move itself. 3 hours ago, Alan Dinan said: BBC!! Buddy ran it recently and there was a mouse nest in the lifter valley so some of that probably made its way down there too. Coming right apart to a bare block and rebuild. 3 Quote
AngrySailor Posted June 17, 2025 Author Posted June 17, 2025 So pops was taking care of my place while I’m at work, cut the grass then hooked up the bush hog to cut at a friends saw mill up the road. Drove my tractor there and stopped to open the gate and when he got back on the tractor wouldn’t move. John Deere 2520, hydrostatic drive. Hydraulics all work, PTO works, it will roll in high/low range with no resistance… sheiiiitttt think she nuked herself… he’s pulling the suction strainer rn. 2 Quote
Gearclash Posted June 17, 2025 Posted June 17, 2025 I am not a JD guy - - but - - I thought 2520s were gear drive? And seems Deeres of that era had a tow disconnect that may have gotten kicked on the way off or on the platform? Seems really odd that the tractor could drag itself there but then go totally no bueno while the gate was being opened. Methinks simple problem somewhere. Quote
