Seems really odd that the tractor could drag itself there but then go totally no bueno while the gate was being opened.  Methinks simple problem somewhere.

It’s hydrostatic with a geared high/low range, no tow release, just put the range selector in neutral. He checked the hydrostatic pedal linkage today, all good the concerning thing is that it rolls free in high/low… seems there’s issues with the hydraulic motors and swash plates busting and all the pistons spit out… he was going to pull the suction strainer but had to leave.

Oh boy. I was thinking of the wrong era. Aren’t recycled model numbers wonderful??

I no help, other than any of the hydro lawn mowers I’ve owned had a link to disconnect the hydro drive so your (often) dead elcheapo mower could be drug back to the shop.  But everything I’ve owned was a much smaller box store POS.

Yeah I don’t understand JD model numbers at all… I scored this tractor with my house purchase for less than half of new price. It only had 194hrs on the clock and it’s right around 1000hrs now. Did the 500hr transmission/hydraulic oil service and the filter and strainer looked mint, just a tiny bit of break in material. So far it seems that pops has checked all the external possibilities, pulling the strainer will likely tell the tale but I’m pretty sure imma have to split it. It can’t even be a busted final drive or axle cuz it doesn’t move in 4wd or even with the diff lock engaged.

Got a set of NOS 0.020” over pistons and rings coming for the 221 flathead. Man are parts hard to find for the little bore motors…

Strainer from the JD. That’s more material than when I did the first transmission service… no big chunks though. Still not good at all.

This is the compressor that buddy had practically no oil left in it when I arrived…

Going back together. Deglazed the cylinders in the lathe with some sandpaper on a stick… new small end bearings, bottom end OK, new rings also. Should be back together next watch. Got the Hp cylinder and piston installed then had to start the engine for departure from Milwaukee. Off to Chicongo now.

That compressor is all back together and running. Did the break in oil change this morning looked like normal ring/cylinder material. Guess I’ll tackle the other one now before it explodes…

Tore the other compressor down for inspection. It’s in better shape. Amazing how that happens when the other guy doesn’t let it run low in oil… did the same job to it, honed and ringed it, changed the hp/lp valves out. 
 

buddy sent me a listing for a “super chiller” air to water aftercooler that fits between the blower and manifold… asking a reasonable price and it’s in Canada already. Messaged the guy told him I’d buy it if the core is in good shape. That will really help with add some safety margin for pre ignition with 91 octane fuel and also save your bacon if it gets a touch lean.

I’m gonna say no cooler, kinda looks like it but that’s a burst plate intake manifold. PSI screw blower too. They run cool compared to a roots blower.

That sucks. I don’t think his son was having a good time. My friend has a supercharged ‘78 corvette and when he takes his kid out he just sits in the passenger seat with ear muffs on and plays Minecraft on his phone while pops grabs gears… no interest in anything else. He wants to be a “professional twitch streamer” when he grows up (live stream yourself playing video games)… kids are proper messed up today, **** they don’t even know if they’re boys or girls half the time…

Last time me and a buddy went to a Ihra nitro meet he said his vision would go wonky for a split second as they launched, I chalked it up to sensory overload and I'm sure Nhra hits harder

Super chiller arrived at my shop today. Core looks mint, still gonna verify by pressure test. There’s o rings that seal the core to the case also. So far so good though.
