Mine won't get to 24"the way it was built. I would check and see if you could go wider and get a decent spacing before narrow. You do not want the units planting in your tractor tracks. That adds compaction and your stand will suffer. You have to take into account the width of the transmission. It could be mounted on a side but then you would have to worry about jack shafts and such I think and issues lining things up.

Only one wheel has the chain drive to the transmission. The other is essentially a dummy to keep it level. The 2-4 row 3pt 7000 series planters I've seen run a single wheel with no issues. The unit itself dictates depth so you just need a drive wheel that rolls on the ground when the planter is lowered. The 4 row we had at work had a trailer jack that raised and lowered the drive wheel. Set it down and crank the drive wheel down to touch. The others I have built below. I shoot for 25,000 normally and plant at 3mph or so. If you get doubles you can always thin it out later. Sweet corn is sickly from the go so in shoot for a good population and even stand.

I have an ex plot planter that's a 2 row. It has the bottom half of a 7000 unit and the top half of a plate planter. I was told they were produced for only a couple years. I size the plates to the seed each year. This has a transmission like @lorenzo talked about. I have built planters from AC and IH ground drive units also. When I worked in corn research we used a 4 row 7000 planter set up on a 3pt toolbar for planting end rows and show plots. The finger pickups work well. You have to swap them over to soybean meters for beans. The sweet corn fingers aren't a must have but I'm sure they would work well. I always used normal corn meters. I hope to find a finger pickup setup someday.

I saw a set similar at RPRU a few years ago that a vender had. I do not know what facility they were attributed to. Those are interesting. I was interested in the ones I saw if they had actual stamps other than just the alphabet but the seller did not.

Just about the same here. Mid 90's and heat index around 110°. Worked all night last night and was wet the entire time. It never really cooled off over night. Up against the boiler it was hot enough the doors burned through my leather gloves. I had to back off and hold my breath as I took notes there because you couldn't take a breath up close without hurting. They say it's about 180° right there but I didn't stick around to test it....

We were 96° and 70% humidity today. You couldn't think without sweating. Better off than at work though. It will be around 150° on the boiler when it's like this outside. Can't hardly catch a breath like that.

It would have met a 350gr 45-70 round at my house.....

Im going to have to side with Cob. Cheese made in America is good. The slimy Velveeta log cheese always seemed a bit more communist than American. Give me a block of sharp cheddar or colby personally.

Wonder if it comes with the front driveshaft? Pics don't look terrible. The later paint setup has me scratching my head. I wonder if it's not a 79' or the cosmetic overhaul made it a tri-stripe. It's cool that it exists and would make a cool addition if that was your thing.
