How did you do?

Passed everything but thermo lol. The whole class did poorly. There were issue with time allowance and available formula books which is dictated by transport canada not the school… I’m re-writing this week.

Years ago when I took Haz-Mat class for fire dept. The day we tested, I kept sweating thru my test, while rest of the students slowly finished 1 by 1 and quietly left the classroom as instructed.

I kept laboring away and finished last. Walked outside and the rest of the guys started ribbing me about being slow. I will gladly admit I'm not the smartest guy. They was talking about their test questions, I realized something was wrong because my test was far different.

Turns out somehow I ended up with a Haz-mat Operations test and it should have been only the awareness test. Somehow still unknown to me I passed it....instructors still wouldn't give me an Ops certificate only the awareness cert.

damn that’s tough, passed but no cert… they we probably looking at the $$$ they lost not having you take the actual course! Did that test supersede the other test? Did you at least get the cert you were there for?

Congrats, quite an impressive achievement!

May it serve you well. There may be better engine builders/machinists than you, but I don't know any.

Have to wait on official results but the professor had a look at my exam quickly and said it sure looks like a pass 👍🏻

Well done! Pleased to hear it Sailor.

Thanks everyone! Been home for a week now. Just built an engine run stand for BBC/SBC stuff, I’d post pictures but the site is still broken… sure hope they can recover everybody’s stuff…. I’ve got that 454 I sold to my friend all assembled and on the stand ready to fire up tomorrow. Just some cooling plumbing and wiring left. I’m going to try my water to water heat exchanger as cart cooling instead of a radiator and fan for now. Just hook up the hose and send it through the exchanger. I can use some fancy thermodynamics I just learned and take some temperatures to get an idea of how much heat this cooker can reject. I think it’s 50 or 60 plates, think it has ~16^2 feet of plate area. Hoping it can keep the 598 cool under load…

That will give you a chance to put your thermodynamics training to the test

They putting you back to sea soon?

I have short courses left to do starting end of September until possibly end of November, then I have two more written exams at Transport Canada to write. Then I get my big ticket and back to work. So I probably won’t be back to sea until next year. Hopefully I get a couple months off and ship out in spring. I’ve been pretty much non stop since November 2025…
