I bought a 3588 and IH 720 6/18 plow. neighbor had a 4840 JD with 6/18 plow he needed some help getting his corn fields plowed. I had the 3588 turned up to 175 hp, to make the story short he could't keep up with the 3588 and when we stopped for dinner, he asked me why I told him traction was his problem. He traded his 1 year old tractor for a 4840 with FWA. both tractors ran together around 5 mph. He also bought a IH 720 6/18 plow. There were a lot of IH 720 plows pushing JD tractors in the corn belt

Big difference between M and SM in HP.. get the sleeve kit its a 4 1/8 bore for a SM MW or fire crater pistons, 60 HP is easy

Its hard to get parts for antique cars and what looks like junk to you can bring big money to finish a project. The 56 Buick Super and 51 Pontiac has promise but it has a bid at 10,000, it is restored but I would ask if it is a running car and see it in person. -

pertronix electronic ignition and flame thrower coil with internal resister. 40,000 volt 1.5 ohm. I used that set up om my pulling tractors for years. I then switched over all my gas farm tractors, and the all start run better and you never have to change points condenser.

Bingo we have a winner, the 856 with the 407 was a beast untill the 400 series came out 414, 436 and 466
-
I never saw a 400 without a live PTO either. something fishy going on here.
-
they will work on 2188 to 2588, 6088 is different setup.

I allways use a cordless leafblower to blow all dust off combine every morning before I cut a crop, and most farmers around here say don't call the fire department till the combine can't be saved because insurance companies will screw you every time.

11 to 14 mpg
-
I agree my 8.1 had a allison tranny got the same mph as a 6.0. Pulling a gooseneck with 2 pulling tractors it used more gas than a Diesel but cost per mile was close because diesel was higher than gas

I had a 1970 GTO RAM AIR 3 traded for a GrandAM, big mistake. After a 10 year search I finally found a 1961 Pontiac Catalina bubble top,95 thousand miles and all oringinal, it was a OLK , car very little rust.
