The first one I had I used harbor freight hand trucks to build it. Basically just use the axles wheels and tires from them, widen the axles for a little wider stance. This one has three quarter inch cold rolled axles rather than 5/8 etc. I don't want to work on it once it's done. LOL

One seat down, seven to go. Free scrap Trex decking "boards" and a little pressure treated sill for attaching it down. I'll cut and drill everything tonight yet while it's pouring rain. Tomorrow morning I need to attach them down no matter what weather I have.

I have the barrel train at the shop to fix the grease fittings on the wheels. They were threaded in the thin wall tube with roller bearings inside them. They had two lock washers on each fitting so they didn't interfere with the bearings .... I'm welding a 1/4-28 nut over each hole to install a fitting more correctly. It's a thinner tube than I like to work with especially trying to reach the back to weld it completely. I have a jam nut welded on a bolt for locating and holding the nut on the rim . Ground clamped on the bolt 

One thing that I want to add to each wheel is a tennis ball over the axle end to prevent one greasy spot from getting on kids

06 GMC dually extended wheel base regular cab. Got it at an auction a few years ago was sitting 8+ years . Had food service body on it and we got a used aluminum flatbed for it that was 9' 4" and I split it down to add 2' to the length. Been waiting for time to get it done then it needs tires , brake lines and a major tune-up. Going to make it dump.

I have to raise the bed 6" to allow the hoist to fit in there . Scissor hoist has a 62" stroke

Subframe mostly done. I need four 14x2.0 mm bolts to attach the front of the subframe yet . Need to round off the top back end for dump clearance then start attaching the hoist and I'll have to enlarge the oil capacity for the electric pump . That will mount on left side and hold the fuel tank fill setup. Subframe bolts with 6 bolts per side 

 

I'm afraid I will have to raise the bumper up 2 to 3 in yet. I had done all the measuring of course I have no weight on the truck right now so I'm sure it's going to sink some and I don't want it to get caught up everywhere because it's only a two-wheel drive truck...

It needs to be cleaned up again. We got it at an auction 4 or so year's ago. It was sitting for 8 years before the sale? Has 60,000 miles

I had some rubber frame strips somewhere and I need to find them. Steel subframe is done except for the bumper if changes are needed to it . Hopefully I will have some time tomorrow to get more done. Hoist rests on a strip of used round baler belting on a 5x5x1/4" angle iron support

Cut the center out of two 12-16.5 tires for between the aluminum and steel subframes . Added a few tabs to bolt rubber on , I have to trim a little bit more on the one side for hoist clearance. Welded hinge mounts together. I need to plate aluminum inside for the hinge mounts. I think I have to get pump ready to mount next and once hinge is attached make hoist mount for the top end.

Hoist dumps the frame. Bed set on to tack in place to stretch it. Have to make hoist controls and wire bed then . Dumps steeper than I needed but it was how the hoist fit where it could

I have 2 ton single axle flatbed dumps and like them. I occasionally see a one ton dump at auction and they bring good money.

What's your plans for the truck?

I always thought they would not carry enough gravel to be that useful. I figured 2 ton of gravel on a one ton dump. My Loadstars only haul 7 or 8 ton.

We have hay to move . Dad was going to the auctions last year with a regular pickup. The Amish are the most common buyers of small quantities and their horses don't have loaders mounted to unload the hay . Dad would commonly back up to something solid and hook strap around the front bale to drag them off . We should be able to put six 3x4 big square bales on this which would be 6,000 lb of hay and dump it easily

Unless I see someone else I think the aluminum portion is done welding. Dad went to pick up two stake pockets from a local trailer dealer. They are lightweight but they will work. I just don't want to hook a chain to them .

Note the chain holding the scissor hoist to prevent an accidental fall

Backed it out of the shop today and added 22 gallons of fresh gasoline. Needs a tune-up, tires, brakes and brake lines, wire the bed a trailer control and plug and inspection before it's ready to use . Inspection sticker is from 5 of 14 so almost 10 years ago. Is has 48,000 original miles on it . Body was really really nice day of the sale we bought it at . My brother went back with a gooseneck trailer to haul it home and in the meantime someone had slid into the left front fender .....
