pt756 Posted August 16 Posted August 16 Good evening, I did manage to get another 1466 on Friday, Pictures are on equipment facts , Oberholtzer auctions by Thorp wis, It does have a white cab on very rough shape, kind of past the redo stage, question I have is the floor plate on the 1466 the same floor plate you would use if you put fenders on? I did our other 1466 years ago had a red cab on that one, cab was really bad, turned it into a fender tractor, dont remember if a different floor plate was used, the one on this white cab looks to be the right one, first got to get thru all the crud buildup. it does have an air conditioning unit on, not the kind I am use to seeing, this one is a about 12 inches long and sits out horizontaly above the fuel pump, owner claims it worked, might need a charge he thought, is there anybody that ever looks for this kind of stuff, I see in front of the radiator is where the air conditioning evaporator is, not up on the top of the back of the cab like our red cab unit is, drove tractor home today, 20.8 X 38 tires on, firestones, not to cracked up, seems to run good so far, will be our new blower tractor, no idea of hours as tach is broke, where is a good place to get those? rest seems ok. dealing with a 50 year old tractor, has fixed steering which is a good deal lately, bad thing hydraulic seat, that does go up and down, will try to charge the accumulator , tractor did come from a small farm up in northern wis, was able to talk to owner, said he sold the cows, now as most guys are doing selling off a few pieces, claimes he didnt need it anymore only has 80 acre farm, still has 4 other tractors, pretty much the way it goes around here, guy sells cows, then some of the forage machinery, then a few wagons, tries to grow crops then ends up renting it out, getting any help is getting so hard lately, Quote
stronger800 Posted August 16 Posted August 16 Well…now I gotta go search for pics because idk what cab and fuel pump you might be talking about Quote
stronger800 Posted August 16 Posted August 16 Lot number 877 Nice looking tractor. That’s a non AC cab…must have some sort of self contained unit up in the top. Or it was On top of the roof…and has been removed. floor panel is same as red cab, and not the same as a fender tractor Quote

acem Posted August 16 Posted August 16 Thanks for the link. Tractor looks pretty good. Cab would clean up but I understand wanting to remove it. I've never seen an IH deluxe cab without AC in person. That looks like a GM AC compressor. Never seen one on an IH engine. I think the JD used that compressor on the 4x30 and 4x40 tractors. Quote
Rick G. Posted August 16 Posted August 16 I think that obnoxious air intake above the hood would drive me nuts before too long. 1 Quote
Matt Kirsch Posted August 16 Posted August 16 It's the early IH Deluxe cab. You're going to need an open station deck and battery trays to remove the cab and put fenders on. The Deluxe cab has its own floor and the batteries are mounted lower. Here's a video of Gierok Farms removing the cab from their 1066: 1 Quote

It is nice looking and not beat up.I figured by the OP post it was going to be tore up. Definitely not a clapped out Pennsylvania dairy 66 series tractor. But for the life of me I never understood the two piece drawbar on 1066’s and 1466's.I have both and just don't understand the light weight drawbar on a big tractor. I guess its because length is adjustable but I rather have the single heavy drawbar. My H100 even has the single and I use a Hydro swing haybine and mow with it. Quote
stronger800 Posted August 16 Posted August 16 I have six of those, only one with the heavy drawbar, and I only keep it because it’s original on a low our black stripe and you’d need a different drawbar support to change it. . I much prefer the two piece, when I was a kid I remember dad always removing the rear section when hooking on to the plows, or even one of the snowblower‘s in the winter time. When I stack them away in the fall, I will occasionally remove the rear section or slide them in to save space. Two of them have 50 pound Kuhn Discbine pivot hitches bolted to them, and the two piece is excellent for that. The one piece bar bothers me sometimes. I also have a jig built into the rafters with a chain fall and a cab holding device, I have lifted five of those cabs now, straight up in the air, and driven the tractors out from underneath of them with absolutely no disturbance to anything or ripping involved. It’s not a complex process. Little bit of cardboard here, and there to avoid paint damage. That white cab in this discussion, I could sell that in about 20 minutes this fall it was here in New York. And the white cab uses all of the same floor, panel pieces, and what not as the red deluxe gab, so he should be familiar with that process Quote

On the Eagle air units the condenser was in front of the radiator and the evaporator went in the cab. Pretty good set ups, no additional clunky box mounted on the cab and there were lots of them sold in my area. Many Year a Round and Hiniker cabs had them as well as non a/c factory cabs. 1 Quote
pt756 Posted August 16 Author Posted August 16 Thanks for replies the condensor is in the front of the tractor by oil cooler, I didnt remember the correct term, I have already repaired a cab, the red cab on the 1066, welded new side panels on next to the wheels, we try to keep that one up as it does have air conditioning in it and it does work, While i didnt bid using equipment facts I did watch the sale on the computer, our internet is not that reliable so they will let me call in , also then they consider me as a floor bidder, then dont have to pay the bidders fee, anyway watching on the computer It appears I was bidding against a guy from Pennsylvania, comment was made by auctioneer go ahead pa make it a trailerload, as there was a 7240 sold just prior for about 25k and the internet said pennsylvania, also there were to fords there a 8770 didt sell got to 33k auctioneer said will take more money, offer 37k and I will call seller no takers, then a 8670 sold for about 25k claimed 5k hour tractor that went to North Carolina, and wasnt that long ago a discussion on here how a couple of dealers from out east will by midwest tractors to resell, I am pretty sure the cab is coming off, and if anybody was remotely interested it could be had for free, all the ac stuff also, was a time when you could trade for a set of fenders but thats long gone, I did ask local parts guy about aftermarket fenders, he claims 2 places, said the yellow he thought were better, I was always able to find good used sets but those sets now can be up to 1500 a set if nice shape, one more question, on replacements do they come with the lighter u bolt for around the axle for a 66 as compared to the heavier u blot on a 56? I know he buys lots of tractors out west of him. Quote
1967806 Posted August 16 Posted August 16 Foot deck is split with a deluxe cab and fender tractor is not. You will also need to get the brackets that bolt the fenders to the footdeck if you go with an open station. Also, as mentioned, battery boxes as well as the covers over the top of the batteries. I got ahold of some aftermarkets of those that were good. And of course battery covers. Originals are best if you can find them. Quote
stronger800 Posted August 16 Posted August 16 The fenders come with no bolts. I’d get the bigger bolts. Drill backets bigger if need be Quote
pt756 Posted August 17 Author Posted August 17 After milking tonight was really nice out, took less than an hour to remove it, maybe not even that long, anyway it has good glass and decent doors, 2350 on the 856 worked just about right, got it high enough. 1 Quote

Last time I had to by a left hand door for my 1466 I found one at Abeline machine for 200 bucks. That was before 2007. I was traveling by so I bought it. They really didnt want to sell just the door but rather the whole cab and wanted 500 for it. But I did talk them in to just selling me the door. LH doors sell faster than RH doors. I assume it's because thats the one that always gets folded up in half when it catches the tire when backing up like mine did. Quote
pt756 Posted August 17 Author Posted August 17 Question about he condensor in front of radiator, does that take away from cooling the tractor, Might it run a bit cooler with it not there? Quote
stronger800 Posted August 17 Posted August 17 No, not if it’s clean. It’s there on 86 series tractors, and your cars Quote

acem Posted August 18 Posted August 18 I have a 1086 with a radiator issue. If you don't run the AC you can work it very hard and it will get warm but not overheat. If you run the AC and work it hard it will eventually overheat. Turn the AC off and it slowly cools back down. You have to be doing heavy tillage in hot weather to notice this. A new radiator would fix it... Quote
stronger800 Posted August 18 Posted August 18 I had never heard that, but I did try to hire the local A/c guy to look at one of my cabs a few years ago and he mentioned going to the 86 series setup with the condenser that didn’t need it owns fans, might be easier if need be. Then he didn’t get to it anyway Quote
