Only for the reason that's what I spent the most time driving in a silage truck. Maybe I'm weird. I guess I don't really care what's under the hood as long as I don't have to work on it. 1 Quote

Powered by IH Posted February 18 Posted February 18 Those look sweet! Be wary of anything with a Big Cam IV. These have low-flow cooling systems and can be very problematic. Cummins N14's are generally good motors, same as the Cat. My second choice semi would be an '85 or '86 9370 like Welker Farms or @craig966 has, or something like that, as long as I have a jake - (BRAAAAP) lol Just look for the right one and you won't be disappointed! 1 Quote
poor farmer/logger Posted February 18 Posted February 18 I’ll always have a bit of a soft spot for the 9370. It’s what I learned to drive on as far as truck driving goes. Still a pretty solid truck but it’s definitely not as comfy as its replacement. It’s a 87 with a 3406. Little over 500,000 miles on it since new. Sask466 Posted February 18 Posted February 18 9370’s have a special place in my heart. Our grain hauler had an early 90’s 9370 with a N14 and 13spd. He put a sleeper on it, and I think it was an earlier one like that 4300 in the photo above had. I loved that truck. He was in his 60’s but he drove like a 20yr old. 65-70mph loaded on gravel was the standard. We had an 1986 9370 tandem on the farm. 400 B model Cat and an 8LL with the U-shape shift pattern. Great set up for a tandem. My dream truck: A late 90’s model with a 460hp red top, 18spd, 3.70 super 40’s, 22.5’s, 60” flat top and a 244” wheelbase. Simple paint job - just bright white paint. 1 Quote

Owner at Bell trucks out of Saskatoon had some of them running blood and guts as I recall out to Alberta to a rendering plant I belive. Fairly easy miles and great maintenance. Dad hauled grain all over with it. Used to take semi loads of canola out to llyod to the crusher. Was pretty proud coming back with a $10,000 check in those days. 2 Quote

The 3406E, N14 and 12.7 Detroit were all great engines, with each unique strengths. Late 80’s/early 90’s the 12.7 sure had the edge on the competition (especially mechanical Cats) when it came to fuel economy. 1 Quote

And longevity they were advertised and promoted as a million miles before bearing roll in. The only real problems those early ones had were camshaft lobes on some and the front bull gear cover leaking. Quote

Dave Shepard Posted February 20 Posted February 20 Looks like the 9370 at one of the farms I drive for. That ones an NTC350/13 speed. Pulls well. They also have a ten wheeler 9370 with a 3406/13 speed. That one is turned up, and when it doesn't have a broken cam, rocker mount, or some other malady, it pulls really, really well. 2 Quote
