5 star General ( semi)

A big iron auction with a 5 star general. Supposed to be low miles and hours don’t know if it is accurate or not . Still a cool old school truck you don’t see many of. A guy from dad’s hometown ran 2 of these from fairly new over the road a red and black one with Cummins. He still has the black one running hauling grain off the farm. This one has the 8v92

It looks quite well kept.  It’s a looker, as a far as GM’s go.  About 20yrs ago I hauled gravel with a guy that had one.  It was a 6v92.  At that time, parts for the cab/hood/dash were getting hard to find.  
 

A truck like that would be best with a parts truck.

Neighbor pulls a 34 ft Wilson with a 2 tone blue General. Cummins in it with a 10 speed.

Also used to be a Chevy Bruin tandem grain truck with a 20 ft aluminum grain box. Cat engine with a 13 speeds.

 Nice truck!!Had a chance in 2003 to buy one in a grain/silage truck from my boss when I was on harvest. 13000 bucks . I was fresh off the farm and didn't have the money. Have a nice picture of it framed and hanging in my office.

I love gmc trucks and knew a bunch of guys that owned generals.  I could never get behind them though.  They look too much like an Astro(cabover) with a hood on them.

I honestly think it is just a Astro cab.  I like the look.  Little different but not weird.  I remember local grain co had a new shiny black one with a stinger tank.  I thought it was the fanciest truck in the county when we got deliveries with it.

the Astro cab is much wider and windshield taller. I don't see it but then again I think they are sweet so may not see what you are seeing😍

I agree. Cabs are different.

The cab looks like an Astro to me as well, if there are no air cleaners or luberfiner mounted on the cab.

Prefer the KW from the first one.

I guess im odd. I don't see the Astro in the General cab. And I've driven a Astro. 22 ft Scott grain box twin screw with a dummy axle. 12V71 engine with a 13 speed. Was built to pull a pup. Not on the list of favorite trucks I've ran but it did get the job done.

Been a long time since I've seen a General. Good looking trucks.  Saw one with a V12 Detroit.

Still want one someday!! One I drove 24 years ago had a 855 with a 13 speed. Little tight on knee room for me ,but still a cool truck. Big 24 foot grain box on it that would hold 850 /900 bushels. Truck didn't know it was there.

I have a soft spot for those Louisville trucks, because it’s what I learned on, had tri axle with a Detroit and a large dump body.

Funny you say that. LuberFiner plant is about 3 miles from me. They don't make those large chrome oil housings any more though. I've seen them put on V8 repower tractors and kinda like the look there. Not to go off topic but those old square hood trucks always appealed to me looks wise. SuperLiners, the 4300 IH trucks, etc...

I think to me, Generals look like a cabover-style cab, that GM stuck a conventional hood onto.  Not necessarily an Astro cab.  

It’s the sharp 90deg curve of the cab that meets directly to that square hood that looks a bit goofy to me.
