Old farm truck

Not a restoration at all.  We use this truck.  Just trying to preserve it a little. 

I got tired of driving a pink truck, so I did a little wet sanding to see what was under the faded paint.  Then a good coat of wax.  I think its goind to look pretty good (just did the hood and fenders so far).  I really like the patina, you dont get that character with a repaint.  Far as I can tell this is original paint.  1968 model.

More pictures when I get more done.  And I really need to build it a new bed.

If you look at the top of the cab, you can kind of see what it was like.  Only the hood was even worse.

Must be something in that old Ford Truck Red. I did the same thing years ago. It was a '76. Everyone thought I'd painted the truck.

Got the sanding and wax done.  I was pleased with the results.  For those interested, I used 1500 and 1000 grit wet/dry sandpaper with a block.  The 1500 gave better results.  I used it on the hood, fenders, and upper half of the doors.  But the 1000 was much, much faster.  I used it on the lower half of the doors and the cab roof.  Took several wipe offs to remove all the loose, dead paint.  Finished it off with some McGuire's cleaner wax.  About $15  invested, not including my time.

Sure turned out good. What year is that? Dad had a 69 that looked like that same paint color only shorter wheel base. It has a 360 with 4 speed.

Same as my dad had. His was a shorter wheel base and 69. All 5 of us kids learned how to drive stick with it.

Looks good. You ever thought about trying rubbing compound? I've used it before on older non-clearcoat vehicles and it worked great on taking off dead/dull paint.

I did consider the rubbing compound.  Figured the sanding was more aggressive, and maybe the compound wouldn't have been enough on the hood and cab roof?  But yeah, wouldn't mind to try it in the future.

FIL's truck.  300 6 cylinder.  Not bad, but I think mine looks better!  '83, I think.

Bout to forget the ole 68 F100 we had. Thanks for the memories. Ours had a 360V with 3 on the fly. No frilles just a good ole truck. I only have a slide photo of the truck and me in the winter of 70.  Oh, it was a wheat color with regular plain hub caps. I would occasionally drive it to school and work while my dad used my 1966 Red Galaxy Hdtop. We had Fords since 1955. Had a lot to do with the A Plan Discount.

Looks really good i have a blue 69 Ford 600 that I am going to fix up once I have my current project running and this has got me excited to see it run again.
