SDman Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Looks like the last Oliver tractor built was 50 years ago today. The last run of Oliver tractors was a group of 100 2255s. According to this, no one seems to have any idea where the last one ended up? Seems odd that this tractor wasn't tracked all the way back to the day it was built, but I guess stranger things have happened. 5 1 Quote

766 Man Posted February 14 Posted February 14 The lack of attention to the last of the Oliver tractors was due to trying to say better things were ahead with the silver and black White tractors. White was trying to distract from anything that might have been perceived as a negative. As it was White had endured serious economic hardships in 1969, 1976, and would again in 1980. The 2255 would be soon revived in the form of the 2-180. 1 Quote

Matt Kirsch Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Isn't the 2255 part Moline? The planetary final drive hubs were a Moline G1350 thing. Lived on as the White 2-150, didn't it? Quote

Further, the 2255 used a Cat V8 while the G1350 used a MM engine. The 2-150 was short lived as the 2-155 debuted in 1977 using the Oliver rear end along with a Hercules 478 CI inline 6 cylinder engine plus used the same cab as the 2-85, 2-105, etc.. Quote

A 2/150 was moline engine with Oliver trans and new style cab. A 155 was the Hercules and Oliver rear. Worked on a local 150 a bit and overhauled a 155 years ago. Quote
Shell1066 Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Easy way to remember it is. The fifty and hundred series were full MM. The numbers ending in 55 were Full Oliver just painted MM. MM G900,G950,G1000,G1050,G1350 were full MM front to back. G955, 1355 were front end MM, Back end Oliver. An easy spotting difference is the moline transmission case and rear has the bracing on the outside , while the Oliver series has it bracing inside. Quote

Except the G550, G750, and G850 are full oliver, just painted MM yellow and MM grill. Maybe if Moline had learned how to number a tractor they could have hung on, but I for one could never figure out their logic. Quote

Maybe if Moline had learned how to number a tractor they could have hung on, but I for one could never figure out their logic. My neighbor worked for White Farm Equipment at their branch office in Columbus, OH and later Syracuse, NY. He came in with a background in Oliver. He had this to say about MM. The factory equipment was simply wore out by the late 1960's especially machines to cut gears for transmissions. MM had no where close to the sales volume to justify modernizing the factory during the 1960's and 1970's. It was destiny that MM would stop building tractors using their proprietary parts. White no doubt took this into account when they bought MM during the early 1960's. Although not said out loud but MM was most likely bought for market reach in areas of the US including the upper Midwest and plains states selling a re-labeled Oliver line i.e. White. Quote

Matt Kirsch Posted February 15 Posted February 15 G-1355 has the same outboard planetary finals as the G-1350. The 2-155 doesn't have outboard planetary finals, and neither does the 2-180. Quote
Shell1066 Posted February 15 Posted February 15 With all the going back and forth with who was in charge at what time, Record has it that when MM was in charge tractors sold as such. Oliver in charge they sold as Oliver. probably why the numbering snafu happened??😕 Quote

Yes, some changes were made to the tractors released in 1977 but most Oliver features were retained. Quote

You could order an Oliver 2150 with planetaries OR bar axles, very odd move from a manufacturing standpoint. Quote
