It has come to my attention on another forum that the occasional poster on this forum tommyw-5088 died unexpectedly from heart problems in his late 50s.

I’m sorry to hear this. I thought he was older as I thought I heard him mention he was retired, not that it matters. Forever is a long time, you better be firm in your beliefs and make your own choices while you can because you just never know.

I’ve known Tommy, or “Howdy,” for nearly 35 years, having met him when I started at JB Hunt in 1992. Tommy began as a Tractor Technician and later became a Body man/Painter. Throughout his career, he played an instrumental role in training me along with many other young technicians.

From the very beginning, Tommy was generous with his knowledge, always willing to take the time to teach, explain, and help others develop their skills. Anyone who knew Tommy knew how much he loved to talk, and many of the lessons I learned early in my career were shaped by his patience, experience, and commitment to quality repairs. Tommy was not only a talented technician but also someone who genuinely cared about the people around him. He had a great sense of humor, a kind heart, and a way of making everyone feel welcome. Whether he was sharing advice in the shop, lending a hand to someone in need, or simply telling stories, Tommy left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know and work alongside him.

Tommy often shared stories about growing up and working on his grandfather’s farm in Midlothian. More recently, he developed a fond appreciation for Navarro County, its people, and its friendly culture. His stories reflected the values that defined him throughout his life—hard work, humility, loyalty, and a strong sense of community. He never forgot where he came from and carried those values with him in everything that he did.

Above all, Tommy was especially proud of his family and his sons—the men they have become, the careers they have built, and the families they have raised. Whenever he spoke about them, it was clear how much joy and pride they brought him. His love for his family was evident in every conversation, and their accomplishments were among the things he cherished most.

Tommy’s impact extended far beyond the work he performed. He helped shape many careers, built lasting friendships, and earned the respect of everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with him. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched, the lessons he shared, and the memories that will remain with us for years to come.

Family, while there are no words that can take away the pain of losing a loved one, we hope and pray that you can find some peace in knowing that Tommy is in a far better place, free from pain and suffering. You will all be in our thoughts and prayers during the difficult days ahead. If there is anything we can do, please do not hesitate to reach out.
