Dust was sure flying yesterday. Spent all day harrowing. Winston was pretty happy to see me come home lol.  One flat fire and a stretched spring on the transport lock for the harrows set me back a bit bit otherwise went smoothly.

good to see this thread is revived,  nothing to exciting happening here yet, still getting more things done/ready here planning to start on the 5th of may, i got a good week of work to do here, equipment is mostly ready to go just waiting on a few more parts to come in, just mostly organize the fertilizer and canola seed that's to arrive here this week, cultivate a few spots and ruts 

trying a new variety of wheat this year so on my way to pick that up in the morning and treat it right into my 3 ton then its ready 

 

biggest 2 kickers of the spring, was i needed a o ring for a solenoid for my jd sprayer and dealer didn't offer a seal kit or just the valve i had to buy the whole thing at over 1000 buck ridiculous the other was my water truck tandem the power steering pump was whining and spewing out fluid, been looking for a month and could not find a new or used pump anywhere which i find crazy as there is how many ih s series truck out there, finally found a shop in Edmonton that can rebuild my pump so it got sent last week hopefully it'll be back quickly this week, just figured last fall they'd be a common pump so i left it till spring now its kinda panic time live and learn i guess

2025 crop has officially begun lol. Got the garden tilled and one row of potatoes planted. Almost looking like it could rain so maybe good timing. 
 

Got the new fertilizer bin delivered just after 12:00. Came direct from camrose. Hardtail could’ve escorted it outa town had I known😂 They made pretty good time getting here anyways. Left around 6:00 he said.

Yes it’s a slick set up. Was a little surprised by the weight. Load sheet says it’s just a couple pounds shy of 11,000. lol just trying to stimulate the economy out there lol.   No snow in the forecast for here so far. Calling for near +30°C temps for the weekend. That’s a little concerning in itself to be honest.

been a crazy few days here but i think i'm gaining, today was crazy hot thing said plus 26 at one point and even warmer tomorrow their saying to warm for this time of year   start spraying tomorrow i think and start seeding Sunday or Monday 

poorfarmer- new bin looks good, don't have any experience with meridian bins every single bin we own is westeel just always been that way 

ready to go and get the crop in, i find seeding to be the most stressful the rest of the year is nothing

Looking like the first wheat will go in the ground tomorrow. Had fuel delivered today and hauled water for the house. Monkeyed around washing the auger out then running a load of canola through it just to try and avoid rust from the fertilizer I got delivered yesterday.  Still need to check the air in the tires and change one hyd filter on the versatile yet. Put the wheat in the semi, set the drill and then I should in theory be ready to go. Likely be a soft start tomorrow. If I get one tank of seed out I’ll probably be doing good. 60-65 acres. 
 

Wheatking It’s our first meridian bin as well. I’ve looked at them over the years though a bit. All our other bins are westeel as well. First fertilizer bin as well. Hopefully won’t regret it. Plan to keep grain in it after harvest.  Unless there’s a smoking hot deal on fertilizer come July.  We don’t use that much dry so it’s hard to justify it for that exclusively. Bin still holds a little over 4,000 bushels and it was only a few thousand more then we paid for the last westeel 1805. 
 

Very hot and windy here today. Was almost  dust storm in the yard all day long. Scared for fires at the moment. Especially with the temps they’re calling for. We’re on the border of a burn ban here. North side of the grid past our house is no go. South side is still ok.

Crazy hot and windy here today. Horrible recipe for burning. Not sure who but someone started a fire at about 2:00 this afternoon and it exploded as you’d expect.  Whoever started it is gona be in trouble as it burnt 3 homes we were told.  First 3 pics are about 20 minutes apart.  
 

Got started seeding today anyways. Got about 42 acres seeded and figured I better stop and check the runs. Sure enough 2 were plugged. One was plugged with a spruce cone of all things lol. Worst part was I got to the end and found a missing opener. Whole adapter had come off. Ended up coming home to fix it. Found another one behind it cracked as well. They have a little rubber cushion in behind the pin that locks the adapter on. It acts like a spring and as it gets older it compresses and breaks apart. They’re a rediculous price for what they are but they hold the whole thing together. Might have to change a few more in the morning maybe. As the opener and adapter are pushing a hundred bucks a piece now.

The local coop sells meridian bins and their lot is a drop off or storage space for meridian. The coop has their own truck, but when meridian comes down usually two trucks pulling two bins each. They stop at lot drop off or mix and match bins they need for the next lots farther south. We are in Rugby ND about 2 hours south of Brandon mb. Those trucks are down here moving bins around a lot.

That’s a wrap on cereals. Have a couple small pieces that were a little wet I might go back at the end and seed otherwise they’re all in the ground now. Start harrowing preparing for canola tomorrow again I guess. Need to run over all the canola acres yet and then see if anything needs spraying.  Had 3 mile deer watching me finish up the wheat.

been tinkering along here started few days ago finished the peas today got rollin on durum, crazy winds here was calm when i loaded the cart 20 minutes later the dust is flying off the dirt roads, hard to keep ahead of drill with sprayer 

 

blew a air bag the second day of seeding finished loading truck was walking back to house for my stuff and bang that was the loudest bag blowout ive ever heard

Got a good chunk of the harrowing done yesterday. Could’ve started out badly had I not noticed the birds nests signing nicely on top the exhaust manifold😮. Wouldn’t have taken that dry grass long to go up and who knows what else with it. 12 hours nearly non stop in the tractor was enough though. Surprisingly my back wasn’t sore though.

Sort of started seeding on Saturday. Multiple small issues with the air cart. Everything was working in the yard prior to loading it up and heading to the field. Didn’t really get started until Monday. Should be done wheat tomorrow or Saturday depending how things go.

Finished up the last of the harrowing today so I can hopefully start on canola tomorrow. So dry it’s debatable if it’s worth it but I guess we’ll try. Never lost a crop in may yet lol. 
 

Fires are going nuts around here. Big one in the area we snowmobile just north of here. I could see the plume all day while I was harrowing. Cousin of mine was heading into it this afternoon to try and get logging equipment out before it burns. No cell coverage there so not sure how he made out. Just said it’s going to be a long day. They have a big pile of logs there from this winter too. They bring it out tree length and process it there then haul it late fall usually.  Sounded like they were watering the piles down to try and save them.  A friend closer to Saskatoon was fighting a fire all day today too with a tractor. Running around discing fire guards and trying to save yard sites. Sounded like he succeeded and managed to save the houses anyways. Saw some pics and it looked nasty to say the least.  Definitely in the line of fire had something ever happened to the tractor it could’ve ended badly. 
 

Was scouting our north quarter for weeds yesterday and when we came back out to the road mama bear and her 4 cubs came across the road. Didn’t get a pic of them all together but she crossed the road and threw cubs just kept coming behind her lol. Yearlings. We were watching them there last summer as well. Surprised they all made it to be honest.

still cruising along here finished the new wheat variety and got everything flushed and switched to canola today, was along day of this and that but were about half done, sounds like showers on the way so thatll be good 

 

checked the first seeded peas and durum tonight on way home the peas are about to break surface and durum is setting roots which is good still not bad moisture down there but gonna need a soaker to really get it going

Been going pretty steady here except for Sunday. Took the day off and took mom down to my nephews at vanscoy for a Mother’s Day dinner. Brother and niece was there as well.  Figured she deserved a break. Put be behind a wee bit but it’s still early. Just the reserve land left now. That should be a couple days if things go smoothly. Last hundred acres was painfully slow though so who knows. Started out yesterday and was all set to go. Did a final walk around the air cart and drill and spied an idler sprocket on the chain drive for the meter drive had a bearing gone.  Had a bearing on hand so figured no big deal but the stupid bushing was downed onto the bolt so I could t get the old race off at all. Ended up making a new one on the lathe so I could get going. Switched canola variety's yesterday as well so that slowed me down some too getting the rate close. I also came to find out brevant doesn’t account for seed size(tsw) they’re just 50 lb bags regardless so now I’m short on canola seed. Need to seed this stuff at 5.7 lb/ac to get the plant population right.  Ran out of seed twice so by 9:00 I said screw it and went home. Finished the field this morning and just moved the drill back home to fill again.  Got a bunch of photos I’ll post later.

The guy running our smaller planter said he had a flat inside dual last night. The bead was broke loose and they couldn’t get it aired up. I got I aired up this morning to find out that the sidewall had a split in it. The local tire place said they could have me one in a few hours.

I got the tire mounted and the dual back on. It’s ready to go for in the morning.

I broke a set of parallel arms on the planter this afternoon. They are a definite weak spot on these Kinze 3000 series units.

I guess I ruined the row unit clutch when I was dragging the unit with broken arms. I had to replace that too.

Well she’s all in the ground. 2025 is a wrap. Technically I guess I have a couple small sloughs that were wet when I planted wheat but 99.95% of it is done. Have to bring the tractor and drill home tomorrow morning. Was getting late enough I didn’t want to bring in home on the road. 9 miles from home and very busy roads some only wide enough for the tractor and drill.  Nothing to disastrous happened so that was a plus. Couple of idler sprocket bearing on the meter drive and two openers was the only problems we had.

I'm seeding very similar canola in those blue bags. LL 345 same as last year. Bag will seed ten acres at 4.7 pounds per acre recommended rate but I'm up around the 5 pound mark same as last year. Got another hundred acres of it to do but rain this evening has put a stop to field work which is fine as long as its only a day or two. Had my share of set backs and holdups or I'd be a little further advanced. Still ahead of last year.

We had a little bit of b lot invigor but most of it was d this year. Seeded it at 5.8 lb/ac. Bad part with brevant is they don’t account for seed size in the bags. Everything is 50 lb so all of a sudden the 30 bags of brevant we ordered last fall to do that 300 acres now only did 260. That left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. Lots of cracked seeds in it as well. Doubt they’ll compensate any for that though.

just over the half way mark here slow and steady here i guess one more half of canola left then into wheat and maybe a little barley not sure on that yet, i hate seeding canola i find it slow i make better time in cereals for some reason

 

brevant i grew it once only cause a friend of mine was selling it at that time, i wasn't overly thrilled with it, grew a crop but wasn't anything wow about it, think it was cheaper seed cost but we put lumiderm on it which jacked up the price 

 

most local guys are about the half way point maybe 3/4 by now, no rain i see it all staying on the east side of province so i guess roosty6 is keeping it all to himself lol
