Also, I have 6 pads in the front/ middle of rotor where a straight rasp bar could be mounted, but nothing is there. This is a standard rotor that only sees corn/beans. On my concaves, (large wire), the first one has all of the wires in it yet, the middle/back ones have every other wire removed. The rear grates are key stock. Is there anything I can upgrade to, to improve threshing? Quote

It has been said that the closer to new tolerance/clearance the less power needed or a gain in fuel efficiency. How true is the cage housing? Do you have a straight edge to check? Quote
Drysleeves Posted September 8 Posted September 8 That sounds like a typical standard rotor. Key stock grates tend to knock stray kernels out of the husk as was their purpose. Best rotor for corn, arguably better than the hybrid setups made to handle tough stemmed crops like soybeans because the more aggressive profile will easily crack corn when not monitored as conditions change. I'm so old I remember having to pull the standard separator grates for small grain to bolt the bars on the outside in order to save the straw for baling and then reversing the procedure for fall. Still have those grates as they've been on a shelf for decades after the key stock variant arrived. For a time we'd exchange them for the smooth grates in small grain but now they just rest comfortably since the 24" rotor has left the building. Quote

I haven't checked the cage housing. The seed quality has been good, last year it was cracking a few more than I'd like to see, but we were also combining 10 percent beans and 15 percent corn. 1 Quote

Seen some beans last fall go from 12-13% to 8-9% in two days. Even had some dew in the mornings a couple of times but beans didnt absorb it. Just make a guy wish we would have had our A game plan the first day. Never happens here the first day. I always say day one of harvest or plant makes one feel like a rookie that day. 1 Quote

The thing that sucked was once the sun went down they got tough and ropey almost immediately. Quote

acem Posted September 8 Posted September 8 I'm pretty sure different rasp bars have different dimensions. Specialty vs grain rotor. Spiked vs standard. We use all spiked in rice on the specialty rotor. Works pretty good with green stem soybeans too. Does ok in corn but breaks up the cobs pretty small. Quote
