83027C1 is the part number on my Hydro 84. There is one on EBay for $89.99 with free shipping.

Tractor Supply has the muffler with the long extension -- 199

I have cut several of those off
also have shortened the pipe and welded the curve part back on 

Not sure if it is still available -- but there was an muffler with a slip on extension -- so would go either way 

the long pipe was for the cab tractors or canopies

I have found one at Crosscreek Tractor that does not have insane shipping cost so I may order that one.  I can cut the top off and put a rain cap on it.

Its kind of frustrating because the original had one short muffler for either case but you could order the gooseneck add on as an option.

Purchased one in April 2022 for $83.99 on eBay and it is still holding up & still looks good.

So the muffler that dad originally had on the 884 - you could take off the curve off the top.  The new one is one piece.  Found a pic.

The 83027C1  on my H84 has the short outlet. I added the extension with a rain cap to get the noise and exhaust up in the air a ways. I would think most people now days want the longer pipe for that reason and probably the reason that is why you can only find the long extension now. Should not be much of an issue to make it what ever length you need.

Yeah Id have to cut that one down but the price is right as long as the shipping was reasonable.

Shipping on a lot of the eBay IH mufflers is typically free.

True but those tend to have a higher price and they dont identify any brand.  It it doesnt fit you have to ship it back.

I did manage to find a Tisco for a reasonable total price.  Should be here tomorrow.  I have a little higher confidence in that brand than some uknown jobber.

Got it today.  They said it was Tisco.  What showed up was a Stanley.  Not the worst thing but it was damaged!  Box was all bashed on the ends and the inlet is all deformed.  

Just my luck!  Couldnt have been the end I want to cut off.  Oh no!  That would be too easy.

crescent  wrench and if you are lucky -a 3/4 " drive socket if it needs tweaking. better yet exhaust expander if you have one

We have cut many acres of overgrown pasture with our 464 D179 mower tractor (I have been in the seat on a 110F day for several hours with out a break) with a right side under the tractor exhaust system. THE MUFFLER is a section of  .25" 3 X 6 tubing with proper welding and 2.25" pipe from the manifold to the rear. The little bit of smoke at startup is no issue. 99% of the working time is mowing, so the mower is normally on the 464, actually is rare to use it for anything else.  I have not had any issue with a hot running board from the exhaust system. (the muffler is beneath the tool-box running board) Vertical pipes are a water catcher, overhead catcher, great for destroying another good engine.

I think you meant 2.5" tubing, right?

My old 340 had an underslung muffler and it worked fine.  If I recall you just had to flip the manifold - but that was a long time ago so could be wrong.  Ive been told that you need a completely different manifold for this one or Id consider doing that.

Its interesting because my current 340 has the round muffler inset into the hood like this 784.  I dont think thats original is it?

One thing is I think I made a mistake making only  8' doors on my new shed.  I have supporting beam clearance for 9' and may have to see if I can convert the shop door.  The  frame is no problem but not sure if I can find the right panels to go to a 9 without  buying a whole new door.  You live and learn.

It happens a lot. A Catholic Priest once told me to not fault God for his cheap labor!

Looks like an easy fix and the outcome could be a lot worse the next time by on shipping.

I had one on my old 966.  Always regretted not getting a full cab.

I can raise that door to 9' but not sure if I have to buy a whole new door or just a different top panel.  Either way I think its not enough.

My old 674 had a Hiniker (sp?) cab but not this tall muffler.  Probably wouldnt fit in either.

It's a quiet yet pleasing sound to me

 

And I can't say with certainty
