Used to be Mitchell On Demand, I think it still is. Snap On bought part of Mitchell in the late 90s and put out their own version called Snap On Shop Key. Pretty much the same thing as Mitchell On Demand.

For one thing the manual for a modern car would be thousands of pages. When our manufacturer quit publishing them they were coming in separate volumes for different systems. I have hundreds of volumes of Mitchell, Motor and Chilton manuals from the 30s through the mid 90s. The best of the aftermarket manuals I have are the Mitchell ones. Much more comprehensive than motor and Chilton isn't even close.

The brand I worked on last published paper manuals in about 2008 or so. Then they were available on DVD for a few years but have been online only since then.

I've used some Astro Pneumatic tools in the past. They’re generally cheap tools but I haven't been disappointed in any I've had considering the price. I have an old AP 3/8 impact that I bought used in the early 90s. It is gutless as can be but worked perfectly for what I used it. I used it for transmission pan bolts and never had to worry about over tightening them. I zipped them on with the impact and finished tightening by hand.

Has anybody put a 10.00-16 tractor front on a 10 inch wheel? I have a 10 inch wheel from a 1466 and was wondering about mounting the 10.00-16 for my 1066 on it just for a spare tire. I put new tires on the stock 8 inch rims.

That was a strong running engine. It had the 350 Turbo Fire 300 horsepower sticker on the air cleaner and the Built by Chevrolet Tonawanda- #1 Chevrolet team sticker on the valve cover. It came out of a 69 Impala 4 door that was abandoned in our small town. Dad was the city maintenance guy so it was his job to get rid of it.

I walked 99% of the time. We lived a block or block and a half from school, depending which door I went in. If I had something going on where I'd need a car it was usually the 72 Impala that was our spare car after mom and dad bought a new 84 Olds Cutlass Ciera. Sometimes I got to drive the 68 Chevy C10 with a 300 hp 350 from a 69 Impala. Later dad got a 1980 C10 and then a 1985 C10 but I didn't drive either of them very often. I didn't buy own pickup until two or 3 weeks after I graduated. I drove that 56 Chevy 3100 pickup to college about 200 miles away.

Not really a hitch hiker but the only stranger I ever picked up to give a ride. I was in Williston ND, winter of 87/88 around Christmas or New Year's. I couldn't sleep so I went out for a drive sometime around 2am. It was bitter cold, well below zero, windy and snowing. I came across a guy on a street corner who waved me down. He was probably in his later 60s. He said he needed to get home a few blocks away but was freezing and couldn't walk any farther. So I told him to climb in, I'd give him a ride home. That's when I realized his pants were halfway down, his twig and berries were exposed and he was drunker than a skunk. He was probably standing out there in the cold for an hour or more because the bars closed at 1am and it was after 2. I didn't see the pants thing before he got in because he was wearing a knee length coat that rode up and opened when he sat down. I got him home and out of my pickup real quick. Soured me on picking up strangers, but at the same time I was glad I did because he could have frozen to death out there at 10 or 20 below. The streets were deserted so it was unlikely anyone else would happen to drive by and see him.

That used to be really common. Honda, Mazda, and Nissan, among others used that design at one time. If you needed to replace rotors you were also replacing bearings. I believe that 1 ton 4X4 GMT400 pickups had that too. Stupid design.

One thing that I remember from the 70s is that most farmers lived in smallish older houses, had a 15 or 20 year old grain truck, drove a pickup from the 60s and maybe a newer car. Much different than today.
