Since Ralph posted a photo with a bunch of Model T's and OBG is going to take his Coupe for a joy ride at Silver Creek today, I figured a couple more T pictures would be OK. Here are a couple of shots of Model TT trucks hauling cement for some kind of project.

While I'm posting photos of old trucks at work, here are a few more.

Was thinking the same. Guess it was firmer than appearances would suggest. rolleyes.gif

Awwwh-----them ol' boys in the right hand drive truck with that big log felt comfortable enuff-----------------they knew fer a fact that they wuz not gonna have no flat nor blow out on any one of them tars.

I don't see any valve stems--------wunder how you checked the air???? :o:unsure::huh:;)

The big log looks real similar to a cypress tree-----------that's a pretty good load???

Were you a truck blockman-------or did you work parts for IHC?? If in the truck division------I was wondering if you ever ran into a great big "truck blockman" from down here in Mississippi by the name of Tiny Crawford. (that would have been the Memphis district)

Tiny was a real character--------------knew his trucks backwards and forwards.

Great pics of the old trucks at work Roger. Like those solid rubber tires on the T.

I don't know if this video has been posted here before but its new to me. Video shot from the front of a moving street car going along Market Street (San francisco?). AMazing to see the cars, horse wagons and people running and driving across in front of the moving street car. Supposedly shot in 1906.

Edit, a photo from today showing an old gear that has been around the farm as long as I can recall but I don't know what it is from. The Rock Island Heider maybe? Or there was some talk of a Sawyer Massey tractor too. This is one heavy old chunk of iron that I use as a door stop on the log barn. :D

Ralph,

You "recked" my plans to sell Anson three tire pumps; a 3 barrel, a 2 barrel and a single barrel. I could've sold 'em to him and he'd still be lookin' for those valve stems!

Roger, those are some fantastic photos of old stuff! Ind I got a GOOD drive in the Model T today after the wind quit.

I never got south of Minnesota while I worked for the IH trucd Div. I ended up handling trucks, service and parts. That's what gave reason to think the furure with the Company. They started cutting back and pushing for more "registrations" untl I had a difficulty figureing out if I was comeing or going. I left March of '71. Now, after forty years I am living in the same territory I travelled for the Company, andloving it. AY

Yip, they sure do look relaxed. It's amazing to see photos of trains that rode over tall wooden bridges like that. There's an area of Texas where train bridges were washed away so many times duing floods in the Trinity River bottoms, that the tracks were abandoned and rerouted to avoid the area alltogether. Wish I had some pics to post.

Ralph, I'd not know what kind of engine that came off of, but it looks like it would have been an intermediate gear from a steam engine. The intermediate gear was sometimes called the "reach gear" according to old timers. Intermediate gears can be two feet in diameter and some had them up to four or five feet in diameter. They fit the span between the master pinion on the crankshaft and transmitted power to the differential drive gear. The relationship and direction the motor or engine proper was placed atop the boiler and whether the differential went in front of the throat sheet (ahead of the firebox) or behind the head sheet (behind the firebox) constituted the diameter of gear required. A few engines, including Reeves, which I'm known to post, never had an intermediate (or power robbing) gear. The master pinion was right above the differential drive gear.

The first picture is of Mike Tyler and me on our 20hp Nichols & Shepard in 1955. Notice the big gear on the side, the reach or intermediate gear. NIchols & Shepard eventually dropped their intermediate gears and built a rear mounted plowing engine like Reeves had all along.

This was a Case center crank engine from the late 1800s, showing the lack of an intermediate gear. When they went to their later side crank engines, they added an intermediate gear. Gary ;)

Of course all Reeves engines, the master pinion rode on the differential drive gear.

Roger's posts of the old vehicles prompted me with this post. These are all 1914 WWI photos, pre-US involvement.

These are French Motor Trucks transporting water to the front.

Interesting photos for today------------maybe the best one is the dog powered machine gun. Those look like a couple of strong and fit dogs hitched to the machine gun------bet they could move that little carriage right along. Don't know if I would rather fight the muzzle of the machine gun------or the muzzles of those big dogs.

Always does my heart good to see the old Case advertisments with "Old Abe" in the picture. Saw in one of the other threads where somebody was wanting to do away with the "buzzard" on his Case/IH steering wheel. I "restrained" myself from posting a reply to that thread----I did see where Loadstar and several others did make a reply------with somebody making reference to Abe's legacy from the Civil War. (Abe the eagle was a mascot for one of the Federal troop units-----------and J.I. Case picked up on it and carried the eagle forward).

I would have been on the Confederate side--------but would have found no quarrel with Old Abe---------might have thrown him some of my very scarce rations if I had encountered him. The eagle is a majestic bird----------glad to have him riding with me on my Marine Corps insigina--------has given me strength for a long---long time. Thanks to those who made a responsible reply and took up for Old Abe on that thread-----my reply might not have been quite that controlled.

And----------while on the subject:

And--------an IHC logo (since this is the RedPower forum:

And-----------my "most favorite" hat of the bunch:

post-1200-0-35242300-1303442081_thumb.jp

The Confederate hat has the Confederate Marine Corps insignia on the front (both sides may have used the same insignia------I am not sure). I am actually a half-breed; my dad came out of Nebraska (but, Grampa always considered that to be way out West)-------and my mother came from the "deepest of the woods" in south Mississippi. My slooow southerrrnnnn drawl dictates which side I would be on!!! (actually had folks that fought on both sides)

Map of the old Nebraska Territory----------covered what is several states now.

Anson, I don,t think anyone was against old abe, we just find it hard to accept Tennico trying to brand the Magnum tractors as Case.

any one who has looked at the frame castings of the early Magnums knows they have the IH logo cast into them.

good news on the lawn tractor front, I got the new decals on yesterday and took it for a 1/2 mi. run in high range so I guess its ready to try out the mower if it ever stops snowing long enough for the grass to grow.

Anson, I was a big fan of the "old" Case equipment but as far as I am concerned the 94 series were the last real Case tractors. After that it was just a name and a memory. I have one of the Case Farm Digests from the mid sixties and recall reading an article in it many years ago about how Jerome Increase Case chose the eagle "Old Abe" as the insignia for his company.

Well Ray, it is warming up here in Sask. Might be time to change the #10 engine oil in the 2090 now that we are hitting near 50F daytime. Still a ways from field work and my harrow bar sits in a snowbank. I shot this video along the lake shore yesterday looking at the rising waters of the lakes. Curious to see where the water that leaves my farm ends up, or passes through on it's way to Hudson Bay.:D

Had to throw in a Case tractor too, an LA I believe.

Since the subject this AM is Old Abe, I'll encore this photo of the Case on my 67th birthday last August. The original Case eagle, didn't have Abe standing on a globe. It was a side view of him, more or less.

This Good Friday, I'd like to wish all of you a great Easter... The true meaning of it. Gary

Now, I'll get along out to Silver Creek.

Not so advanced in this area. This picture from this afternoon shows the only machinery I can drive in the fields. That sign shows up in quite a few locations in this part of Sask. I don't see how anhydrous trucks and other heavy loads are going to get around here for a while.

Cover photo from this week's Western Producer showing a Farmall (400?) half submerged in the rising waters of the Qu'appelle river. It must have come up awful fast if the owner didn't have time to move his tractor to higher ground.

I'm no Farmall expert but that looks like a 200 or a C/Super C.

I would bet on it being a 200 Tom, definitely not a 400.

RE: flooded Farmall

Regardless of tractor model-------------I would bet on the water being wet (and muddy).

Ya'll send that water out to the North-----------we've got a "big River" coming down the Mississippi--------and its continuing to rain in the Ohio River basin. Mississippi River levels looks to exceed the 2008 levels at minimum.

Interesting fact for those that don't realize it:

one surface acre/inch of water = 27,000+ gallons

When we get a 3" rain over several counties-------------that is one he!!va lot of water.

fields around Vanscoy are saturated, the snow has been gone for 2 weeks now, but theres no place for it to go, my deep well normally has a water level 45'down ,now its 4' down, im not sure if this crop will ever get seeded
