Evidently back in the day, the amount of tools a farmer may have carried with him to the field was significantly less then today.
perhaps it was a good place to store your lunch instead

There's not much room in there and it's a dirt trap writ large. Might keep your lunch warm or even perhaps lubricated with HyTran but rumor has it HyTran was so pure back in the day you could drink it safely!

I have 1 on my 340 also although I never use it. Not sure if all models used the same 1 but the dimensions are the same on my as Lorenzos.

Same as a fifth wheel lock puller that you can get at just about any truck and trailer supply store. And they come in several different sizes. 24 in, 32 in and 46 in. And in a variety of different colors. l still have the one l got when l bought a new '86 Pete but it is black. This is a quick pic l got off the net. My Dad's 806 LP with fast hitch had one with the brackets under the seat.

Thanks Guy! I might just have to find one, preferably in red!

I still have the hook that came with the Super C that Dad bought new. It has been overpulled, bent, straightened, abused, and went thru a barn fire, so it isn't as nice as the ones previously pictured. I also got a fifth wheel pin puller for the 560 that needed the hook opened up a little to fit right.

The IH Fast Hitch lives on as a Hinniker snow plow quick attach system and the operating lever morphed into a semi detaching tool.

Well, after 20 minutes of cutting, welding, and bending, here's what I came up with:

It's not perfect by any means, but it didn't cost much as I already had the rod left over from another project. When it warms up, I'll give it a coat of 2150, but it'll do for now.

Found a good place to store it, too:

The umbrella bracket was already bent, so I can't help but wonder if the previous owner had the same idea.

Thanks to everyone for your help!
